INTRODUCTION
Yukio Mishima, a Japanese author, actor, director, model, and socialite, stunned the world when, in 1970, at the age of forty-five, he committed ritual suicide in the manner of a samurai warrior after attempting a coup at the headquarters of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces in Tokyo.
