    A Note from the Author…

    I was born in the south-Live Oak, Florida. My parents moved to Pahokee, Florida when I was three years of age, and with the exception of going away to college I have remained in Pahokee, Florida my entire life. Pahokee lies on the southeast border of Lake Okeechobee, where I live approximately two miles from the lake. I am currently a fourth grade teacher at Pahokee Elementary school.

    Fifty years of life has taught me many valuable lessons. Most importantly is to treat all of humanity with dignity and respect, and to help whomever that I come in contact with to purposefully do better in life- if that’s only by giving an encouraging word. While growing up in Pahokee life has afforded me the opportunity of experiencing many of life’s adversities and enjoyments. But being close to caring and nurturing people (mostly my own family) have given me an added advantage during the adversities to let me know that I can and will overcome them.

    I was about six years old when I started to watch my grandfather in the kitchen. Every summer after school was out I would travel to Jupiter, Florida (Limestone Creek Rd.) to spend the summer with my grandparents. I would spend countless hours observing and helping him cook, bake, attend to the farm animals, garden, and fish. Those were some of the most priceless times of my childhood, and a vivid reminder of a place and time when it didn’t take a lot to survive, or even live well because we had everything that we needed and even more. As I grew older I would always watch my mom and aunt prepare meals paying careful attention to the ingredients they added to each dish. I never really wrote ingredients down-just mostly committing them to memory.

    These four cookbooks (A New Generation of Old Cooks-Volumes 1-4) were inspired by God and for their entirety I have been cook, photographer, typist, and editor. Therefore, they have all been created with love, thoughtfulness, lots of prayer and listening for God’s direction and guidance. While in the process of constructing them a lot of times I would not always have the correct ingredients that I needed to make or complete a dish and I would occasionally use alternate ingredients or I would at times get an idea or hear a voice say to put this or put that in it. This continued for about three years. One day my cousin cooked a dish and I tasted it. At that moment I distinctly heard a voice say to Put sausage in it. I immediately knew then that it was God speaking to me and I felt that at that instant He wanted me to construct a cookbook. It started out as one cookbook subsequently with His leading turned into four.

    I have dedicated the past 3 ½ years trying to compile and formulate the precise recipes, pictures, and biblical overtones which include bible scriptures and excerpts from my pastor. All of these elements have come together to complete these four cookbooks and make them the best ever to be released through the media. My goal is to be a witness in spreading the Word of God through these cookbooks. The recipes in these four cookbooks; A New Generation of Old Cooks-Volumes 1-4 span across generations from the 19th–21st century, and I would endeavor to say that my ancestors were and still are the common factor that brought together the cooking for me. From the twist of red pepper added to the Fried Chicken to the fried bacon used to complete the Stewed Catfish and Rice in Volume One (containing 150 recipes) these four cookbooks are appealing to all generations.

    My wanting to be obedient to what I felt that God was saying to me is the reason that you are reading this page at this precise moment-May God bless you and your family, and remember when God gives a directive be obedient to what He is saying to you!
