I have learnt a lot in the process of writing this book. For this, I am eternally grateful to the Lord Jesus my Savior. Also, I can’t thank Him enough for the privilege He has given me to receive the ideas and support which have contributed to make the book what it is.
On the home front, it has been an encouragement of immense value to hear my wife and children urging me on every step of the way. So I wish to use this opportunity to acknowledge them—my darling wife, Linda, and our four precious children; Blossom, Excel, Favor and Noble—for making home such a wonderful place to be.
I also wish to acknowledge the fact that God has blessed me, on all sides, with wonderful family members who have supported and encouraged me through the years. My dad and mum stand out for all the love, training and motivation they invested in me—and my brothers and sisters. Mum has gone to be with the Lord but dad continues to cheer us on. Likewise, my parents-in-law, along with my brothers and sisters in-law, have been very supportive and caring. It is my joy to say thank you to all of them.
Introduction
So, how significant is light? In a world that has become caught up with globalization and technological advancements, the significance of light can be lost to us. However, the fact remains that there really can be no life without light—Without natural light there would be no life on earth; natural light is essential for maintaining the biological balance that sustains plant, animal and physical life in the world we live in. Taking it further, this basic fact of nature parallels a scripturally-established spiritual truth which makes it obvious that without spiritual light there would be no spiritual life. We read from the Scriptures that the light of Jesus gives life to men—just as His life gives light to men. Jesus said in the Gospel of John, I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.
¹ We become Christians by answering God’s call to come out of spiritual darkness in order to live in the marvelous light of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.
So, how does light affect daily Christian living? After we become Christians, the significance of spiritual light should become more obvious to us—not less obvious—because without a continual flow of the illuminating power of God’s revealed word to guide us, we would not experience the overflowing abundant life which Jesus died—and rose from the dead—for us to have, enjoy and share with others. The quality of your Christian life and the level of influence you will exercise have a lot to do with the quality of light that will shine on your pathway in a world whose system of operation and way of thinking are becoming more and more enveloped in darkness.
Your ability to live continuously above the darkness in the worldly system around you is tied to light; your ability to find the right answers to the issues of life is tied to light; your ability to find your way to the top—and remain there—in your field of operation is tied to light; and your ability to experience continued success in every area of your life is tied to light. This is why, as a person, God wants you to have total victory over every form of darkness and discover the ways to maximize your potential in life—He wants you to:
• Know His light.
• Have your spiritual understanding illuminated.
• Have the right perception even in challenging circumstances.
• Be in a position to make right choices and quality decisions.
• Walk in wisdom and experience that your path keeps getting brighter and brighter.
• Shine out by making an impact that will affect the world around you.
• Bring the radiance of Jesus into your world and by it lead many out of darkness.
Light is essential for a victorious and fulfilling Christian life. This awesome plan of God creates the need to ask certain pertinent questions:
• How do you receive and activate God’s light so you can know and walk in His perfect will?
• How do you get fully plugged into God’s purpose and stay connected to Him as you run your Christian race?
• Why do many Christians go round in circles—around the same mountains—and how can they break free from this?
• How do you develop the attitude that will propel you to a higher altitude in life?
• How do you become more like Jesus and truly represent Him as the light of the world?
If these thoughts and questions are relevant to you then I believe this book will help you. As you read it,
