Not everyone needs to be a project manager but most professionals can benefit from project management learning.

The Customizable and Adaptable Methodology for Managing Projects (CAM2P) is an approach developed by the author in 2007. This approach have been used on various projects such as events, marketing, business development, engineering, construction, capital intensive projects, launching a business or a new product, among numerous others.

This book is a sample and simple project, using CAM2P. In this sample (case), the author show the readers how to use the method from idea to closure, step by step, leading to the successful delivery of a BOOK. This e-book is the first in a series of similar books.

He is a serial entrepreneur and active volunteer leaders, with a passion for project management and global community development!

This book is part of the CAM²P™ Strategic Program¹,².

The CAM²P™ Strategic Program includes various sub-programs, one of them is a publishing sub-program. The publishing sub-program has so far delivered numerous projects and more are on the way. Under this sub-program, we have already published The Inheritance (2010), Project Management Foundation³ (2014) (in English and Arabic) and Redefining the Basics of Project Management⁴ (2014). In addition to these books, we have published seven e-books⁵ (between 2013 and 2014).

For reference, it is beneficial to discuss the sequence of these books and their interrelations. They all address The Customizable and Adaptable Methodology for Managing Projects™ (CAM²P™) but from different perspectives.

1. The Inheritance / Project Management Foundation: This was our first book (and its second edition) that addresses CAM²P™ through a story-telling style. Through the story, our expert project manager coaches her friends how to take a social entrepreneurship initiative and a community project from idea to completion using CAM²P™. The reason for the story format is to help introduce the concept to a wide audience, an audience that might be new to project management.

2. Redefining the Basics of Project Management: This is the main knowledge reference on The Customizable and Adaptable Methodology for Managing Projects™. It includes various sections, starting with the current state of project management, and the challenges and opportunities facing the field of project management.

The book provides an explanation of the rationale behind the methodological approach and how it supplements global standards from professional associations, such as the Project Management Institute⁶. The book contains extensive descriptions of CAM²P™ and how it integrates with the PMBOK® Guide⁷.

In addition, the book covers the details of the CAM²P™ methodological approach including all phases, stages, stage gates, stage deliverables, and other relevant information.

The last section of the book is on how to customize and adapt the model to various domains, industries, and project’s classification.

3. Applied Project Management⁸: The Redefining the Basics of Project Management included numerous examples, stories, and case studies. Yet, when we launched the CAM²P™ publishing sub-program, we realized we needed to have a book that shows how CAM²P™ is applied in real life. We wanted to demonstrate how it is used on a diversity of projects, small or large and from different domains.

4. Future Work: As we continue to use CAM²P™ on our internal projects, we plan to publish more e-books and books of the Applied Project Management series, which will include various sample projects. In addition, as we work with clients who are learning and using this methodology, we will try to have them share their projects’ experience with members of the community to promote further learning.

This book consists of various sections, each section includes a sample project or other relevant information.

It is highly recommended that you read or refer to the Redefining the Basics of Project Management to understand the foundational knowledge that we used for the projects and samples. However, this is not a must.

For readers’ convenience, we include, in this book, a few chapters from the previous work, which are essential to understanding this book. This will be Section 1.

These sample projects are real or realistic projects – simulating a real project. Some of them are complete examples⁹, but others are partial samples.

It would be vital to say that it is not possible to list the details of these projects in this book due to the volume of information, confidentiality considerations, and other factors. However, we will do our best to provide the readers with enough information to understand the samples and how The Customizable and Adaptable Methodology for Managing Projects™ can be applied on projects from various domains. Our objectives are:

1) to demonstrate the applicability of the model for various projects’ types (domains, sectors, size, classification …)¹⁰; and

2) to provide the readers with practical samples that they can utilize as starting point for their own projects.

In addition to the project samples, we have developed templates’ packages in line with CAM²P™. Each of these packages includes a blank template, instructions sheet, completed sample, flowchart, and when possible, even video on the subject of a given template. Some of these are available on the SUKAD Portal¹¹, products section.

We include the templates and instruction sheets in this book. These are the forms and instruction sheets for small and simple projects.

The author of this work is not a native speaker of English, and although his language skills are good, they are not perfect. Further, proper editing is expensive, and the author and SUKAD do not have the resources available to major publishers. Consequently, sections of this book may not have a perfect English. This is a risk that we have accepted in order to get applied project management content out to the professional community at a low price.

This section is an introduction and includes three essential chapters from ‘Redefining the Basics of Project Management’ (Ajam, 2014). We include these chapters here as a ready reference for readers to better understand this book, in case they have not read the previous book.
