    INTRODUCTION

‘If what you are doing is not working, try something different’

    NLP Presupposition

It is time for a change, isn’t it? Enough is definitely enough?!! You want more for yourself, and those closest to you certainly wouldn’t mind if YOU WERE LESS STRESSED?!! You want to change all that, you want to live a ‘stress-less’ life, right? You have definitely picked up the right book for you! In fact this is potentially the first step to finally get you on the right track towards the successful life that you always wanted, but never thought possible.

Coaching and NLP are all about change, choice and releasing your inner resources to create a more successful life for yourself, and they are the basis for the thinking behind this book. It is for this reason that you have chosen to pick up this book, no doubt. If you are willing to experiment to find what works for you then you will genuinely ‘take back control’ and find that your life becomes ‘stress-less’.

Coaching is a collaborative process, and so you will be required to take part, try out new things and take responsibility for your life in a way that you have never done before. This book contains exercises and ideas that you must ‘try on for size’; some will really connect with you and literally change your life—permanently! How do I know? I have found these ideas to work for myself personally, and for others that I have worked with as a coach. You must make a decision that change is important to you and begin your journey to a ‘new you’ today. NLP says that ‘choice is better than no choice’ and so this book is all about giving you the choices so that you can ‘take back control’ of your life, and so lead you to a ‘stress-less’ lifestyle.

The book is based on a number of coaching and NLP principles and ideas which you will meet as you journey through the pages. Presuppositions such as ‘there is no failure, only feedback’ and ‘you have the resources within you’ to create your best life, will help you shape your journey and develop the new beliefs that can support you through the process. Coaching is always non-judgmental and allows each person to become their best in their own way—there is no set path. If you are to gain the most from this book it is important that you treat yourself in this way; too often we are quick to judge ourselves and presume that we don’t have what it takes to live our best lives. You must be gentle on yourself in one sense, whilst realizing that you will need to challenge yourself as you change.

It is essential in self-coaching that you hold yourself to account. You won’t change unless you change!! You must be your own mirror to check yourself out and ensure that you are following through on your new decisions. But within this process there is ‘no failure, only feedback’ and as the captain of an airplane is constantly making adjustments throughout the flight to ensure they land on target and on time, so you must respond according to the feedback that you get from your ‘experiments’ on your journey to the ‘stress-less’ life.

‘NLP shows you how to become curious about your failures, and identify the patterns in them. This helps you gain not only understanding but a new control over your life’ McDermott and Jago

Above all be curious, be experimental, and be willing to change as you become more self-aware, confident and shed the victim mentality that leads to stress. Who knows what you will become? Who knows where your journey will end? What you do know is your starting point—that you
