- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Once again, Cami Checketts has created an exciting mystery/romance novel, delighting YA and Adults with her usual style of intrigue.Brinlee Trapper fled her home town, leaving past mistakes behind. She settles in to a secluded community in the mountains. She is determined to start a new life with her young son. What she thought would be an uninterrupted time with her son soon takes an unexpected twist. The last thing she wants is another an in her life! Will anything or anyone change her mind? She soon is confronted in new situations with her protective neighbor, Lance, across the street and Jed, who is equally appealing. Both men have their secrets. Will she be able to trust either one or continue, as she had planned, as a single parent. There is action, adventure, intrigue, suspense and romance in this fun, fast moving novel. The characters feel very real and the scenery is depicted well. The reader can almost smell the mountain air and foliage.I feel the book cover lacks in portraying the true story line, although, it is colorful and eye-catching. I, also, felt for a period of time the story seemed to drag slightly with repetition. I, therefore, cannot offer a full five stars rating. My review of this book offers a Four and a Half Stars rating. The author sent this book requesting an honest review, of which I have given.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5OH, I LOVE THIS BOOK! At first I was upset with Brinlee made a mistake then repeated it. Sure, she looked for any love that she could get when her missionary parents chose the world to her. I liked that Brinlee's neighbor took such good care of her and her sons, but felt a concern a little too much I had my doubts about his motives and loved how he fought for her love.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5When I first started reading The Colony, I seriously wondered what type of book I had requested. Soon, though, I was lost in the story as I followed Brinlee and her sons Trevor and Michael through their days. I did not find that it was as suspenseful as some novels I have read, but it definitely was captivating. As Brinlee tries to learn about Jed, also known as Hunter Man to Trevor, and the secrets he keeps we travel with her up and down the mountain in the pass she is living. It did not take long until I was anxious to see what they were up to, and who Brinlee would chose as her protector. Written by Cami Checketts, at first I thought this was a different style of writing from Blog This, the first of her novels I read but on second thought, perhaps it is not. Both mothers will give their lives to save their children from the evils of the world around them. Both are very well written, with a show style instead of the telling style. It was worth the time I spent reading it.I received this ebook from Kathy at Book Blast Tours and Cami Checketts for the purpose of writing an honest review. A positive critique was not required. The opinions are my own.
