    Chapter 1 Hold up a 7/11

Patrolman Jones is clearing a two-car minor fender bender on the mile long, steep Cemetery hill. Neither car is drivable and the two lanes going up the hill are blocked for almost a mile. Until a second and third patrol car arrives it is two lanes only going down. With enough officers, they will halt the cars going down the two lanes and start to move the two lanes going up the hill. This is going to be difficult until the drivers going uphill realize that both lanes will be going up.

Patrolman Jones has been on the police force over seven years. During that time, he has proven himself to be decisive, hardworking and one of the few officers who shoots as well as Homicide Detective Rage.

Patrolman Samuel Jones is in his early 30’s, six-feet two inches, a rock if you were ever to bounce into him. He is bright and a quick study. He wanted to get into the Seattle SWAT unit, but it was full and had a waiting list. The smaller cities around Seattle either had no SWAT unit or they did but their pay was poor. He decided he would pay his dues while being a Patrolman in Seattle. The ladies say he is a fine looker in his uniform. He never talks about his service on a Navy Seal team because it was all classified. The SWAT leader wanted him, but the list is the list.

He is one of a very few single patrol cars, most have two Patrolmen in each patrol car

In a stopped car waiting in line eight lengths behind the accident on the hill are three men.

One man is fussing, We are going to be late. This is planned to the minute. We are washed up and will lose all our cash.

The front seat passenger says, Come on, we can walk the short distance up the hill.

Two men get out of the car, carefully crossing the two lanes going down and get on the only sidewalk. Patrolman Jones is too busy to even notice them.

Patrolman Jones has his transparent rain gear on. There is no forecast of ‘rain’, but they reported a ‘filter sun’ forecast. In this town, it means the mist is almost falling and visibility is less than one block. Walking in this mist for several minutes and you will be soaked.

The two men leaving the car are two blocks from where they should have been five minutes earlier. They walk slowly pass the two officers in the second car on the scene as the second patrolman is getting out of his car. They trot the next block away from the view of the officers. They slow to a walk around the curve at the top of the hill. The 7-11 store is open with several gas customers. The third patrol car is pulling up to stop the traffic from going down the hill. They are detouring the traffic down a side street.

The small delivery semi at the 7-11 is already parked, the power tail-gate
