    Arcades and Personal Computers

    The early days of gaming were marked by simple games, first developed on early computers for a variety of purposes. Following the development of new technology 'the cathode ray-tube amusement device' or CRT, the first electronic interactive game was created on the first electronic display and in the 1950's video games were developed.

    Arcade Games had existed as mechanical coin-operated games from as early as the 1920's but the first Arcade Video Game was 'Computer Space' and was released in 1971. Popular consensus lists 'Pong' as the first arcade video game but this wasn't released until 1972 despite being remembered more widely than 'Computer Space'.

    The first video game console was released by Ralph H. Bauer in 1967 and was named 'Brown Box'. It had two controllers and just six basic games including classics such as 'Pong' and yet few owned
