Hornby’s budget Mk.2f

MODELLERS now have a choice of two current ‘OO’ gauge Mk.2f coach models with the release of Hornby’s brand-new Tourist Standard Open (TSO), First Open (FO) and Brake Standard Open (BSO) coaches, initially in Intercity Executive livery with italic typeface markings.

The differences between the Bachmann and Hornby models is stark; the latter not having any of the electrical and DCC innovations applied to the Bachmann models. The suggested retail price of the Hornby models is also considerably less, reflecting a simpler design and less involved assembly which will appeal to a certain section of the D&E market.

The model is based on the final design of the hugely successful Mk.2 coach introduced in the mid-1960s following the XP64 trials. Mk.2f stock entered service in 1973, equipped with air-conditioning and up-to-date seating. Interior finishes had progressed from wood
