When you think of EDM you will probably imagine big festivals, huge anthems and epic productions. All of that might well seem a million miles away from what you believe is possible for yourself. But let me tell you what those big name DJs do is not all that different from what most bedroom producers do. That is all easily achievable with the right knowledge, techniques and a few tools.  The biggest difference between you and the big stars is in ideas and quality. Skillset, knowledge and tools are almost the same.

All you need to know and more will be covered in this book. From the knowledge of music to getting inspired and creating an epic EDM song. I’m even going to show the steps to get that song signed and out there for the world to hear.

Imagine the possibilities of having your song signed to a major label.

It’s no secret that the top DJ’s got there because of the music they make. You could be there too. Mainstage Ultra Music Festival, playing in clubs worldwide and getting your songs heard. Or maybe you just want to learn how to make an EDM track from start to finish. There are so many possibilites. All of that will be covered and much more.

The flow of this book will begin with an outline of EDM, then it will focus on the journey of a song from concept to production, mixing, mastering and then how to get it out there. You can decide to go through this chapter by chapter or you can jump straight to the parts that interest you the most. Remember that learning something takes repetition so always come back and refresh your knowledge. Now let's get started producing EDM.

    THE MAIN GENRES OF EDM

EDM is a broad way of defining dance music. As a whole it encompasses music that is suited for the dance floor. Within that umbrella genre there are many more genres that vary massively from each other. Let’s take a look at some of the most popular ones. This will give you a clearer picture of what to expect when producing within that genre. You can also check out how difficult each genre is to produce within the descriptions. Don’t be put off by that though, learning curves can be quite steep at the start but once you climb them your flying.

*higher scores mean it is more easy to produce.

    Big Room: (126 - 130 BPM)

Big room is one of the most popular sub genres of electro house music and EDM. It was popularized by the likes of artists such as Hardwell, Martin Garrix, KSHMR and R3hab.

The music is very formulaic and one of the easiest to produce. All tracks will include a long techno style build up that goes into a big drop with a 4/4 hard, bass thumping kick. Minimal musical elements, synths and percussion usually fill in space but most of the room is left for a huge kick.

    *Difficulty to produce: 8/10

    Drum and Bass: (160 - 180 BPM)

Drum and bass also known as D'n'B, is a subgenre of EDM which was born in the UK jungle and rave movements during the early 90s. Fast breakbeats, with big bass lines, samples, and synths characterize the genre.

A major influence on D'n'B comes from the Jamaican dub and reggae
