Preface

Mildred Smith was the one who wrote this devotional guide. In 1976 she received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. A few months later the Holy Spirit began dictating letters for her to write. As thoughts would form in her mind, with paper and pen she would write those words down, word by word, as they came to her. She did not form these thoughts by herself; they were topics about which she had little or no information. They were scripturally based, although she did not know it at the time. Some of the ideas seemed strange to her. They were certainly not her ideas.

The love of Jesus is evident in these letters. As people read them they are aware of the depth of love that Jesus has for all mankind! Jesus does not condemn anyone! He calls and draws them into a daily walk with Him.

One of the most significant things about these letters was the loving way in which they were written. If the letter dealt with sin it was presented in a manner that gave anyone reading the letter an insight regarding why sin offends God. The letter leads the reader to seek change away from that sin, drawing that person closer to Jesus.

Whether a person reads only one letter a day or reads the book in its entirety all at once, their life will be changed. It is a labor of love sent to the people of Earth. Mildred wrote daily, except Sundays or during the times when earthly matters took precedence in her life. She was never in a trance. She could answer anyone who spoke to her and then she could continue with the letter. She could write at any time that she chose. The Holy Spirit was there whenever she asked Him to talk to her.

These letters are just a small sample of the way that the Holy Spirit communicated with her. The letters are on many diverse subjects; all are related to God and the way that man relates to God. They bring wisdom and understanding about God to a world that has shut God out of daily life.

Early when Mildred began writing, Sharon Smith, Ph.D., her oldest child and only daughter, was assigned to be the script bearer. Sharon’s assignment has now started. She and her husband Joel M. Kestenbaum, Ph.D. are the compilers and editors. They, as did many others—including Mildred’s husband Burl C. Smith; their three sons Steve, Jeff, and Phil, and their spouses and children—watched as Mildred would sit and write without any preparation or hesitation. The words were always amazing, often prophetic and always from God.

The letters are like a spiritual bath of goodness. They clean one’s soul as one reads the thoughts that have been sent to purify one’s soul. God would speak face-to-face with the people. He is love; see Him as such!

Acknowledgements

The words of these letters are from the Holy Spirit, who dictated them to Mildred M. Smith. Using a pen she handwrote them on notebook paper. As in all dictations errors can be made. Some letters were typed in advance by Burl C. Smith, Mildred’s husband. In later years some were transferred into word processing documents. It was an enormous effort of joy for him. Some letters were lost in the confusion of life, moving, illnesses, and a fire that totally destroyed Burl and Mildred Smith’s home.

We, the compilers, were the ones to edit spelling and punctuation. Wording was kept as close to the original as possible. We chose the letter headings, accompanying scriptures from the King James Version of the Holy Bible, and put the letters in a publishable format. Any errors are ours.

It is important to acknowledge all of Burl and Mildred Smith’s children, the apples of their eyes: Sharon, Steven, Jeffery, and Philip Smith. All married, and the boys had children and grandchildren who Burl and Mildred dearly loved. They were loving and kind parents and prayed for every one of their family members to be believers in Jesus Christ. They lived a Christ-centered life.

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us

Holy, holy, Lord God Almighty! You are the lover of the souls of the people. You see that the value of people is not what is apparent to the natural eye. That which abides within their souls makes them of value to society.

There are many people whose image in a mirror is the most important thing to them. It is true that beauty is breathtaking to behold. One may see some of the wonders upon the earth and be amazed by the beauty that is seen. Above all else people are the most beautiful. They are the ones who rule the world and they have learned how to make things lovely, including themselves!

Jesus was not accounted to be beautiful. Yet people were struck by His presence. When they beheld Him and the love that was within Him they sought Him as their friend. Many loved Him and saw Him as the most beautiful person they had ever seen. Jesus embraced those who came to Him, both rich and poor. He looked into their souls to see what beauty lay there. They loved Him and followed Him faithfully.

After the death of Jesus many of these same people would receive the same beauty that Jesus had. They would not see themselves as being beautiful; they would not presume to be above someone else, nor was beauty a means to an end. They became glowingly lovely because Jesus was found in them.

These people were satisfied just to be able to carry on the work that Jesus had begun. They sought to be as He was in all things. Indeed it was a marvelous time as people took on the nature of Jesus Christ. They, too, began to see miracles happen. As the people of the world became more cynical toward them the more they grew in the nature of Jesus.

It became more dangerous for them to embrace the ways of Jesus, but this did not matter to them. They had caught a glimpse of who Jesus really was and their lives did not matter anymore. They felt rich just to be able to do the things that Jesus did.

Still other people killed and tortured them. Many people were astonished by the way that His followers acted when they were murdered. The beauty of God shone upon them as they fearlessly faced those people who would take their lives from them!

Jesus Brought the Spiritual Aspects of God Together with the Physical

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools

(Romans 1:20–22)

Let there be glory, honor, and praises unto the Lord Jesus Christ! Worship and adore Him! He came to bring eternal salvation to mankind, and He accomplished that which He came to earth to do. That people do not accept what He has done is not His fault.

One may argue that since Jesus made mankind people would recognize their Creator, that He would be the ultimate in all that they do. People have been given the rule of earth; they enjoy their supremacy. They do not feel as if they owe Jesus anything. They would remove any traces of the Trinity and set up their standard of authority!

In their arrogance they see all that is around them and declare that they have made it, that all that they see belongs to them. The very idea that people were created by a Superior Being does not matter to them. They are the ones who rule, and they will not bow to anyone else!

There are times when people get so used to what they have that they never give credit to the person who had the idea to invent it, so they claim for themselves that which someone else labored to accomplish. There is no guilt that someone else spent much money and time developing something that could be beneficial to the world.

The same holds true for Jesus and His work at the cross. People had become wicked and there was no way that they could exist upon earth. They had become so corrupt they were going to destroy themselves and all that they had accomplished upon earth.

Jesus died so that people would be saved. It was not the first time that God had sent outstanding people to wicked people to reverse their wickedness. This Jesus was different than those other great people God sent to save humankind. Jesus was concerned with their souls. He wanted people to live forever. His concern was not for the physical person as much as for the spiritual person. No one had been able to reach the place where God and people could be reconciled.

Jesus brought the Spiritual aspects of God together with the physical. He knew that there would be those who would overcome sin through Jesus and be eternal creatures in Him!

There Is No Stronger Bond Than the Bond of a Mother and Her Child

"Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me. Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child. Let Israel hope in the

Lord

from henceforth and forever"

(Psalm 131:1–3)
