WHERE S THE PARTY TONIGHT

Whether in India or in any other country, for that matter, the elite generally consist of either the super achievers who have made good in their respective fields, or the inheritors of ancestral wealth and privileges.

The Cambridge dictionary explains ‘ELITE’ as the richest, most powerful, best-educated, or best-trained group in a society. These are the leaders, the movers and shakers. They have the resources, the connections and the influence. But more often than not, things go off keel. Here’s a story.

Pratap (name changed), is the son of an industrialist. His dad is a jet-setter, who is constantly in Europe, to protect his business interests. His mom is a socialite who regularly appears on Page 3 of leading dailies. As a child, he was cared for by a nanny, while his parents attended to their various social obligations. Pratap was addicted to alcohol and cocaine.
