      Why ‘Make Money Teaching?’

      If you have a skill you wish to share with others, a bit of entrepreneurial spirit and want to make a bit (or sometimes a lot) of extra money then this is the quick no nonsense guide that I wish I had when I first started running classes. I also cover teaching online and making educational digital products such as eBooks and online courses.

      This book will help anyone who wants to make money from ‘teaching,’ whether that be running a tutoring business, yoga class or a personal training service; the principles are the same. I have kept the advice in this book as broad as possible so it will benefit everyone from sewing teachers to people running choirs. You will also benefit if you want to teach online or make an educational product to supplement your income or market your existing business. If however, you want to be a classroom teacher in a state or private school then sorry but this is not the book for you.  The focus is firmly on how to run classes/private training sessions for profit.

      We will cover pretty much everything from identifying a need (market) to actually marketing your services. We will also look at how to turn potential customers into loyal, happy paying students who both come to your class regularly and recommend you to others.

      This book is tightly focused on the points that I think will help you make money. I apologise in advance if this book comes across as ‘money focused’ but I am going to assume that you are going to provide an excellent service and that what you need help with is the ‘profit’ side. Remember, if your class/online course etc is not profitable you will not be able to continue with it. If it doesn’t continue, lots of future students will not benefit from your classes. So, in a weird way, you owe it to your (present and future) students to make your class profitable. Unfortunately, the ins and outs of starting a class are beyond the scope of this book and would take us away from the problem I’ve seen class leaders struggle with time and time again. How do I turn my passion and knowledge of a subject into money?

      How do I know what I’m talking about.

      I started teaching English in 2001 and have taught in small/big private schools, run my own classes and taught classes in large businesses.  I was a manager at an educational organisation where I ran a lot of classes. During this time I came into contact with 100’s of teachers, many of them running their own private lessons elsewhere. I also worked in many community centres and came into contact with a vast array of people running classes covering every subject imaginable including languages, music, sports, yoga, sewing and also some personal trainers. Many of the classes I observed failed. Not because they were bad teachers/trainers but because they failed to
