About this ebook

I have been studying the spiritual and paranormal my entire life. This has also led to me having many paranormal experiences such as prophecy. I’m also a Reiki healer and have experimented a lot with vital forces and different healing methods.

Since I’m also and engineer I think this gives me a fairly unique perspective on the scientific and the spiritual. My view is that spiritual/faith and psychic healing can often be entirely separate approaches.

In looking at all the books available on this topic I saw a lot focusing on the spiritual aspects and some focused on Chakra usage or Reiki healing. What I didn’t see was an overview and history of the whole topic to help people understand how spiritual and energy healing developed and how it fits into the science and medicine of today.

There is also a need to see how spiritual and energy healing integrates with other medicines to improve a person’s long term health.

In Part One of this book we cover the sources of vital forces and energies in the human body.
Part Two is on the history spiritual and vitals forces healings and many examples of spiritual and faith healers.

Part Three is all about how you can develop these healing abilities yourselves. Exercises to learn these healing processes are included.

Part Four covers how to integrate the spiritual, mental, and physical parts of your being to provide stable long term health for your life.

The Handbook of Spiritual and Energy Healing - Martin Ettington

In addition to other researched sources for this handbook I also used portions of some of my other books:

The 10 Principles of Personal Longevity

    God Like Powers and Abilities

Our Energy Body, Auras, and Thoughtforms

    PART ONE: VITAL FORCES

2.0 The Source of Vital Forces

The history of vital forces and life force energies comes from ancient beliefs that we all have an energy body system as part of our physical bodies.

India developed the concept that we all have energy centers or Chakras as part of our energy bodies which affect all aspects of our lives. China on the other hand developed a whole approach to medicine based on energy meridians in the body. (Acupuncture)

I believe that the physical universe we can see is permeated with consciousness and built on top of a level of consciousness. Vital forces are connected to our consciousness.

So when we talk about Spiritual or Energy based healing we are really talking about manipulations of our Spirits and Vital Forces. Read below to learn more about how all these things exist in our lives.

2.1 The Chakras and Energy Meridians

Here are some descriptions of these two views of the energy components of our beings:

    Energy Flows and Chakra Development

The Chinese concept of energy meridians (the points and channels along which energy moves) are used in acupuncture therapy and are another way of looking at the energy flows a body needs.

These and the Indian concept of energy centers (chakras) are all about the way your energy body is designed to stay healthy when energy flows are working properly.

Below is a diagram of the main acupuncture meridians of the body:

    Human Body Acupuncture Meridians

When those flows are interrupted it affects our health and acupuncture can be used to restore this. Needles are used by acupuncturists to stop and start energy moving at key meridian points to help restore the energy body to a proper balance.

Chakra development exercises also help repair energy flows. In long lived persons the energy is often not flowing properly and has to be repaired. These improvements help one’s health; and as the energy starts moving properly again. The energy body is affecting the physical body in a more healthy way.

Many books and traditions discuss details of energy meridians and chakra development so I will not do so here. A short summary of Chakras and their functions follows.

The Figure above shows the chakra centers on the body. These chakras are energy centers where you take in energy to keep your body healthy. The chakras when developed are commonly thought to control spiritual and mental abilities as follows:

Crown Chakra: To be open, to know, intuition, precognition, connection with infinite intelligence, to have faith and connection with God

3rd eye Chakra: Clairvoyance, psychic reading, to have vision or insight, photographic memory and telekinesis

Throat Chakra: Communication center, telepathy, clairaudience, inner voice and tone healing

Heart Chakra: To be in affinity with, to be at one with, to connect with, compassion and unconditional love

Solar Plexus Chakra: Astral projection, to be empowered, to manifest, to be in control of yourself, psychic healing and levitation

Sacrum/Feeling Chakra: Clairsentience, emotional feelings, balance of male and female energies

Root Chakra: Grounding, realizing, letting go, and surviving

2.2 The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali

Here is a statue of Patanjali who wrote the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali:

I first learned about the read the Yoga Sutras when I was about nineteen, and it has impressed me to this day as a well written exposition for enlightenment and an analytical view of Yoga.

I believe that the Sutras also describe the underlying reality behind all religions and mystical philosophies.

The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali was written in four books in the Sanskrit language and is one of the great spiritual works of India.

It is available in print and in many versions on the Internet, and describes the path to enlightenment and attainment of spiritual powers.

The Sutras were written over 2,000 years ago by some estimates. The Sutras are often described as a scientific exposition in the science of yoga and consists of 4 books of Sutras in Sanskrit which has numerous translations in English.

Each book was written in short sentences of Sanskrit, so many publications of the Yoga Sutras today include the following:

    1) The original Sanskrit text

    2) The phonetic and exact word translation

    3) Turning the previous into and English sentence

    4) An exposition on the meaning and details of the Sutra.

Below is a picture of the sutras in Sanskrit carved onto wood:

All of the superhuman abilities and powers and more referred to in the Sutras are found in book three.

The goal of the yogic path and the Sutras is enlightenment, however many spiritual powers become side effects of this spiritual process.

Many Sutras describe different abilities or how different abilities can be derived.

As an example-although the Sutras don’t talk specifically of physical immortality, the powers available as a result of the spiritual development process would also affect the body in a very positive manner.

In Book 3 Sutra 45 we have an example of what I’m referring to regarding spiritual powers from the process of enlightenment which would probably cause a lot of longevity in the physical body if exercised properly:

Book 3 Sutra 45-Thereupon will come the manifestation of the atomic and other powers, which are the endowment of the body, together with its unassailable force.

The body in question is, of course, the etheric body of the spiritual man.

He is said to possess eight powers: the atomic, the power of assimilating himself with the nature of the atom, which will, perhaps, involve the power to disintegrate material forms; the power of levitation; the power of limitless extension; the power of boundless reach, so that, as the commentator says, he can touch the moon with the tip of his finger; the power to accomplish his will; the power of gravitation, the correlative of levitation; the power of command; the power of creative will.

These are the endowments of the spiritual man. Further, the spiritual body is unassailable. Fire burns it not, water wets it not, the sword cleaves it not, dry winds parch it not.

And, it is said, the spiritual man can impart something of this quality and temper to his bodily vesture.

Many forms of Yoga exist to develop one along the path. These include Raja, Gnana, Praya, Tantric, and additional forms of Yoga.

Yoga teachers for many of these disciplines can be found in many major and minor cities around the world.

2.3 Auras and the Energy Body

The energy fields from the human body are what can be manipulated to modify a person’s health. In this book we discuss chakras and energy meridians as the main energy structures of the physical body. Here is another excerpt from my book The Energy Body, Auras, and Thoughtforms on the Aura Structure which surrounds and extends out from our physical bodies:

The human aura has been illustrated many different ways since we really don’t have any good photographic techniques to show how it looks. Here are a few illustrations which are close to my own observations:

The above two images are the closest I could find to what the aura looks like. It is a gaseous cloud emanating and surrounding the individual, with different densities and colors around the chakras.

This image below shows a good illustration of what the different aura layers can represent:

Aura colors may be interpreted differently, but here are some common meanings of colors you might see in the human Aura:
