JOHN MEREDITH was born in Dartford, a Kentish Man, since that was west of the River Medway. His family moved to Croydon when he was three and he lived in that locality for the next 36 years until he moved to York in 1967.

John had been a member of the Road Locomotive Society for 69 years, having joined in June 1951, attending many of those early meetings held in London and was the Society’s longest-serving member. He was RLS Treasurer for 50 years and in recognition of this astounding achievement, he was
