About this ebook

In post-Covid USA, civil aviation has been affected badly by the Global Pandemic and subsequent Depression, resulting in hundreds of airplanes being grounded and thousands of crews laid off. Entering the civil aviation scene after a glittering career as a USAF test pilot, is Max Brennan. Steady and meticulous, he is unprepared for the cut and thrust of corporate life, and his wife and daughter face their own struggles too, trying to come to terms with life away from the sunny, happy lives they led in Florida and make new beginnings in industrial Bartle. Gerrard Trimble is a corporate man through and through. He is ambitious and wily, knowing whom to cultivate and whom to discard on his way to achieving his goal of making his way through to become Chief Executive of Holst Aviation. He runs a tight ship both at work and home where his wife tries hard to be the perfect partner to him. Max and Gerrard are thrown into working closely together for the company’s new project - a pilotless, all-electric airplane. The company is expecting the project to run smoothly and efficiently, and Gerrard is certain he can deliver the project regardless of the cost to other company employees. Max, however, is not sure that Gerrard is the right man for the job. Teamwork can make the dream work only if everyone invests in the team, and it soon becomes clear that the players may be heading in different directions as the dream turns into a nightmare scenario for some. After a major mishap, things finally come to a head when the company decides to replace the electric motors on its successful Frontrunner airplane with jet engines and expand its route network.

David Gill

David Gill spent 42 years working in the aviation industry, where he became familiar with both military and civil procedures and flew a range of airplanes ranging from small trainers to executive jets and a four engined jet airliner. At the end of his flying career, which had included a large training element, he became a Quality Manager at a small airline, overseeing both Operational and Engineering matters. After writing numerous Operations and Procedures manuals, he took to writing science fiction to satisfy his curiosity in man/machine interfaces, producing three novels. The latest developments in post-Covid aviation led him to write a contemporary novel about the experiences of a US test pilot who leaves the Air Force and finds himself joining thousands of unemployed pilots who are also looking for work. David moved to New Zealand in 2006 and is happily enjoying his retirement in Christchurch with his wife, Marian.
