—one wish I’ll never get enough of

    . . .

Have you completed the project, students? the teacher thumped his files on the table.

The twenty-five faces turned perplexed at the teacher’s words. Most of the students forgot about the circuit project we were assigned before the winter vacation. Every single one of us barely remembered the teacher mentioning anything regarding the project last semester.

Well, then, all of you are staying back during the lunch hour, the teacher crossed his arms, resting his foot on the H-stretcher of the table.

Huh? Sir, please, we’ll finish it by next Saturday. You can’t take away our lunch hour like this! One of my classmates jumped out from his seat, nagging to the teacher.

Is he stupid? There’s no way this man’s going to let us free, murmurs flew around with the wind and the new trend of snort-laugh took over. Guys don’t understand how disgusting they sound. Maybe because pigs will forever be pigs.

I kept sitting on my chair, with the extreme buttock pain I’ve been enduring for the last eighty minutes, inside the same classroom, with the same faces and with the same suffocating environment. However, a good thing is that the extra class is going to be in another room, so no worries. At least, I’ll get to breathe a different medium of air.

Hey! I felt a poke on my shoulder. I turned around to look who it was.

You haven’t done the project, have you? the person behind me whispered, covering the sides of his mouth.

I shook my head with droopy eyes.

How come? the guy’s eyes widened at my response.

    I frowned.

Why? I raised my eyes brows.

N-no, I mean, it’s quite rare for you to miss any of the assignments, and so I was curious, the guy awkwardly smiled.

And it’s quite rare for you to speak up to me after nine months since the classes started, I faked a smile at him in return.

H-hey, that’s because I’m new to this university. I’ve never been in one before, he looked down, pouting to himself.

Oh? You mean, others have been to universities before? Whoa, I had no idea about that. Thanks, dude, I rolled my eyes and got up from my seat at soon as the bell rang.

I grabbed my belongings and set off for room number 407 as the teacher previously mentioned. I walked as fast as I could so that I could catch the last bench, or else the popular kids were to snatch it away.

    Thud!

I crashed into a young boy without noticing.

Aye man? You don’t have eyes? I scoffed as I bent down to pick up my materials.

I’m sorry. I didn’t notice, the boy looked straight at me. His eyes held a sincere apology. I could tell.

He helped me out to organize the books and papers that dropped.

Uh, thanks, I thanked him for helping me with the things. He bowed at me with courtesy and started walking.

    Very formal. Okay?

I exhaled a deep breath and entered the classroom.

    2

Can you shut up already? I covered my ears with my hands to ignore my friend’s babbling.

Ah! What a pain! Why don’t you ever take a look at what I say? Amie stomped with annoyance.

Because all you talk about is men, I rested my chin on my hands.

So? Amie shrugged at my answer.

And none of them are attractive or worthy enough to be looked at, I raised my thumbs and went back to my usual doodling.

I wonder if you’re ever going to get a good guy for yourself, Amie gave me a disgusted look.

Pfft, I’ll get one when needed, I let out a laugh as I doodled.

Oh? How? From the sky? Amie stroke my forehead.

"Yes, from the sky. Like whoosh!" I spread my fingers from above to create a dropping gesture.

Amie laughed at my words, and so did I.

Alright, I’ll go look for some more guys, Amie got up from the chair and jumped out of the classroom.

Soon, it was time for the lunch break. I got up from the chair, grabbed my mini purse and headed out to the cafeteria.

As soon as I was about to step out, I had to stop.

Hey. It’s you again, I spoke at the sight of the boy I bumped into, from the previous day.

    H-hello, he shyly smiled.

What brings you here? I asked.

Oh! I was looking for Mr Park, he replied.

Hmm. He dismissed our class early today. So maybe he took a leave due to some urgency, I guessed, not sure, by the way.

Oh, the boy’s face lowered, Anyways, thank you!

    I smiled.

Oh hey! What’s your name, dude? I enquired.

Amor. Amor Alberto, he smiled, yours?

Hmm. I’m Esther Wilson, I smiled back.

    Amor nodded at my response.

Alright, see you, I bid him goodbye and hurried downstairs to the cafeteria.

    3

    Saturday

My phone buzzed on my side table, while I twisted myself underneath the blanket.

Ugh! What is it? I picked up the call.

Oh my God! Esther! Listen up! Amie squealed over the call.

    What?

I finally met this guy from the other department and he’s so nice I—

Bye. Got to sleep, I hung up as soon as she started talking about guys.

It’s weekend for God’s sake, yet she’s busy hooking up with boys at this hour when the sun is even not up.

    Well, it is.

Assignments and assignments. How long do I have to stare at the To-Do list waiting for the man of my dreams to come and save me from all these? Pathetic.

I think I’ll just go for a walk.

Man, it’s quite cold out here.

I quickly put my hands into my pockets and looked here and there.

There noticed a kid trying to ride a bicycle for the first time. This reminds me of the time when I got a brand new bicycle as a gift from my dad and I was so excited to ride it until I tripped over a pebble in the middle of the street. Ha-ha, good old times. I used to be so cute that everything around me seemed cute, too. But now I’m spoiled. Thanks to my impatient curiosity.

    Yo! Esther!

I heard my name being called out from the back. I turned around lazily.

Wooh! Amor panted as he rested his hands on his knees, bending down a little.

I never thought I’d find you here, I frowned with a faint smile.

Same here, Amor said with doe eyes, dusting his Tee, By the way? What are you doing here at 7 in the morning? You could’ve slept a lot, you know.

I’ll probably redirect your question to you before I answer

Hmm. Well, yesterday I slept early, so I woke up early, too, Amor grinned.

    Ah. I see, I nodded.

    What about you?

I came here because I was disturbed by a phone call and also I wanted to escape from the assignments, I said.

Oh. Do you need some help?

    Huh? I frowned.

N-no. I mean, if you need any help in your assignments, feel free to knock me up, Amor offered.

Now that’s a great deal. I’ll buy you sandwiches for each of them, okay? I gave a thumbs up.

Whoa. Hold up—are you going to make me complete the entire thing? Amor reacted.

Isn’t that what you just offered? I held myself from smiling.

    I g-guess… not? Amor’s expression turned into a knot.

I couldn’t help but laugh at him.

Chill out. I won’t make you do them. I’ll do them by myself, I laughed.

Amor’s lips grew into a tired smile, followed by a nod.

I can’t believe it’s already Monday. What the hell?

I packed my stuff into my bag and got ready for the university. Before I left the room, I checked once again if I’ve completed all the tasks assigned before the weekend. Seeing all well, I finally got out of the room and locked the door.

I got out of the building to find myself blocked by a huge crowd.

Right. The manager’s back from the hospital. No wonder the entrance smells like a mixture of Hexasol and tulips.

I somehow squeezed myself out of the crowd and ran to the bus stop. Such a pain.

    Wow, do you live here?

Huh?—what! Do you, like, drop down from the sky whenever you like? I laughed at Amor’s sight.

Probably, he gave me a vague, straight smile.

It’s pretty creepy, you know, I flapped my eyelids constantly.

Sorry, I don’t mean to creep you out like this. Just that I live around here so we might just see each other sometimes, Amor explained.

    I nodded.

Where exactly do you live? I asked.

    Why? Amor wiggled his brows.

No, because it’s not fair if only you know about my place while I know nothing about yours, I shrugged.

I live in the 3rd house on the next street. I’ll show you sometime, Amor said.

Yeah, so I can haunt you from beneath your bed, I jested.

Oh, then I probably won’t, Amor looked away.

Uh-huh? Someone seems to be scared? I gently poked his arms with my elbow.

    Ha-ha, I’m not, Amor laughed.

In no time, the bus soon arrived. We individually got onto the bus and took our seats at the back.

You like backbenches? Amor asked as he saw me resting myself comfortably on the seat.

Hmm. Very much, I crossed my arms and spread my legs forward.

Oh, I never really wanted to sit at the back. I always feel left out somehow, Amor spoke as he gazed at his feet, playing with his fingers.

Nope. That’s not it. Back benches are relaxing, I said.

Amor turned his head towards me, pausing for a second. Then, he nodded.

Now, that’s impressive to see exactly twenty-five copies in my hands, Mr Park spoke with a low, deep voice as he rubbed his palms, gazing down at the copies.

Yes sir! We are indeed a bunch of brilliant students, a boy proudly exclaimed with his heads high.

I think I never mentioned so, Mr Park frowned.

You didn’t. But, you know? I can read your mind, the boy closed his eyes, motioning both his hands to his chest.

    "Is that
