    Mobile Book: Berlin

    Smartphone Book Berlin

    Renzhi Notes

Berlin became the capital of the Margraviate of Brandenburg (1417–1701), the Kingdom of Prussia (1701–1918), the German Empire (1871–1918), the Weimar Republic (1919–1933) and the Third Reich (1933–1945).

After World War II, the city was divided; East Berlin became the capital of East Germany while West Berlin became a de facto West German exclave, surrounded by the Berlin Wall (1961–1989) and East Germany territory. Following German reunification in 1990, Berlin was once again designated as the capital of united Germany.

Frederick William (1620 –1688) was a staunch pillar of the Calvinist faith, associated with the rising commercial class. His shrewd domestic reforms gave Prussia a strong position in north-central Europe, setting Prussia up for elevation from duchy to kingdom, achieved under his son and successor.

Under the rule (1740–1786) of Frederick the Great, Berlin became a center of the Enlightenment.

The Industrial Revolution transformed Berlin during the 19th century.

William I, the first German Emperor (1871 –1888). Under the leadership of William and his Minister President Otto von Bismarck, Prussia achieved the unification of Germany and the establishment of the German Empire.

    Unter den Linden …

Unter den Linden (under the linden trees) is a boulevard in the Mitte district of Berlin, the capital of Germany. It is named after its linden (basswood in American English, lime in British English) trees that line the grassed pedestrian mall between two carriageways.

Unter den Linden runs east–west from the City palace to Brandenburg Gate.

Berlin Cathedral, St. Mary's Church in background

Berlin Cathedral (German: Berliner Dom) is the short name for the Evangelical Supreme Parish and Collegiate Church (Classification Protestant). It is located on Museum Island.

The current building was finished in 1905 and is a main work of Historicist architecture of the German Empire.
