WHICH THERMOSTAT?

Q I am looking to change the coolant in my Midget and I thought it was a good opportunity to renew the thermostat as well but which one is best? Additionally, how do I tell what the stat setting is and is the drilling of the stat I have read about on MG websites worthwhile?

The specification of the stat is matched to the prevailing climatic conditions as originally MG production saw different opening temps for the stat fitted, depending on the market the car was heading for. That meant that, generally, a 74°C stat would be seen in cars destined for hot climate markets, 88°C stat for the cold climate markets and 82°C for temperate markets like the UK.
