      The bell above the shop door tinkled, signaling the arrival of a customer. Alexander hoped it was a customer and not someone simply asking for directions. He glanced up from his work, watching from behind the counter as a striking woman sauntered inside. She carried herself with supreme poise and confidence. His breath hitched at the sight of her face, one so lovely it ought to be captured in a painting. She wore a fashionable violet dress and matching bonnet, both trimmed in black lace. Age-wise, he would wager she was in her early thirties.
