A Divina Comédia em quadrinhos é a transposição para a linguagem da HQ do poema épico de temática religiosa de Dante Alighieri. Esse grande clássico renova-se nas aquarelas de Piero Bagnariol, que se esmerou na tradução em imagens da obra reconhecida como a mais rica fonte da cosmovisão medieval, retratada por mestres como Botticelli, Doré e Dalí. Enquanto se dedicou à pesquisa iconográfica, Piero contou com a parceria de seu pai, Giuseppe Bagnariol, para elaborar roteiros de passagem entre trechos do texto original. Trechos que, por sua vez, foram escolhidos pela dupla com o suporte da especialista na obra dantesca Maria Teresa Arrigoni, que também orientou a escolha das traduções - Jorge Wanderley para o Inferno e Haroldo de Campos para o Paraíso. A tradução do Purgatório é de Henriqueta Lisboa, autora cuja obra está nas mãos da Editora Peirópolis. Um grande encontro de talentos e esforços para oferecer aos leitores a melhor tradução d'A Divina Comédia, em todos os sentidos. Piero e Giuseppe Bagnariol criaram também um blog para dar vazão a toda a pesquisa realizada para a obra, chamado Divina Comédia HQ.

Dante Alighieri
Dante Alighieri was an Italian poet of the Middle Ages, best known for his masterpiece, the epic Divine Comedy, considered to be one of the greatest poetic works in literature. A native of Florence, Dante was deeply involved in his city-state’s politics and had political, as well as poetic, ambitions. He was exiled from Florence in 1301 for backing the losing faction in a dispute over the pope’s influence, and never saw Florence again. While in exile, Dante wrote the Comedy, the tale of the poet’s pilgrimage through Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise. To reach the largest possible audience for the work, Dante devised a version of Italian based largely on his own Tuscan dialect and incorporating Latin and parts of other regional dialects. In so doing, he demonstrated the vernacular’s fitness for artistic expression, and earned the title “Father of the Italian language.” Dante died in Ravenna in 1321, and his body remains there despite the fact that Florence erected a tomb for him in 1829.
