5th SUNDAY SERVICE

August 5, 2012

Fifth (5th) Sunday Service was held at Belle UCC, Rev. Leafier Johnson, Pastor. Rev. Adam Curley. Pastor, St. Paul UCC offered a sermon titled A Well Experience. The sermon focused on a Samaritan woman who met Jesus, a Jew, at Jacobs Well. During this time period, Jews did not speak to Samaritans. But she had a conversation with Jesus. He offered the Samaritan woman a drink of Living Water and she would never thirst again. He asked Where have you met Jesus? Call Him anytime and He will answer you. Representation at the service came from Plymouth Congregational UCC in Beautmont, Woodbury Congregational UCC of Lake Charles, Teche UCC and Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. Pastor Johnson is very blessed in that David Mitchell and several members of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church provided music on this occasion and special events at Belle UCC. Quite a few Belle Place residents responded to the call from Pastor Johnson, proving that they are truly good neighbors. Teche was well represented at the Fifth Sunday Service with about 20 members attending. A repast followed the service. DEATH TRIBUTE Gloria Daye, (Lil General or Lil Woman) as I called her, departed this earthly life on July 13, 2012. As her obituary states, she was short in stature, but the lil woman was dynamite. Whatever and whenever she wanted participants on church programs, no one said no. She had that certain something that few people have (finesse, tenacity and a knack for creativity). From what I understand, she had the same calming influence on the job. Students, teachers, and parents gravitated toward her and upheld her thoughts and conclusions. We were first cousins and I truly enjoyed her lil smart mouth on numerous occasions. Glo is already missed by church, family, friends, and community members. precede her name, but BIG will always precede her accomplishments. Lil will always (Jeanie Culbert)

Hello Friends Death has invaded our community and our church. Our hearts are saddened but we have this assurance in Christ Jesus that He will never put more on us than we can bear. Also, we believe if our trust is in the Lord, that earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal. Bro. Morris (Molly) Polk, Jr. lived in the community for many years. A man of few words but you could depend on him. He moved away for many years. He was a veteran in the U. S. Marine. He served his country well. Minister Anthony Joseph, III was a member of the choir and from time to time lifted our spirit with his melodious voice. He also was a veteran of the U. S. Army. Both Morris and Anthony served time in the Vietnam War. Sis Gloria Mae Daye was a member of the choir from time to time. She selected songs for rehearsals periodically. Even in the last phase of her life she remained faithful in attendance to choir rehearsals and church services. She was truly a trooper voicing her opinion on different matters when the need arose. She touched many lives in the community. She was small in stature but had a big heart. She would be quick to tell you, Its my legs that have been crippled not my mind. She helped raise her nephew and niece the best way that she could. She faced this hard world with a smile, she quickly dried her tears, and she fought lifes battle womanly until her race was won, like all of us she had her faults and yet her life was good. So let us say with cheerful hearts, Oh Lord, your will be done! Glo (Gloria Mae Daye), Anthony Joseph (Bo Diddley), and Morris Polk Jr. (Molly), you are free from the fears of tomorrow - you are free from the guilt of your past. Youve traded your shackles for a beautiful song. Youre free, free, free. (Sarah the Ham Conway)

Sympathy goes out to Larry Smith on the loss of his mother, Marcell Smith. Marcell has been on our sick list for a long time but her sickness is all over now. Allow us to extend our deepest condolences on the loss of your mother. Losing a parent is one of the biggest losses that can be suffered by anyone. May you find God's presence with you as you journey through this time of grief. Marcell is the sister to our former choir director the late Brenda Broussard.

I attended a church service a while back where they had the 7-Ups To Christian Living 1st Up - If The Defeated Christian Would Look Up 2nd Up If The Hardheaded Christian Would Listen Up 3rd Up If The Traditional Christian Would Catch Up 4th Up If The Sinning Christian Would Fess Up 5th Up If The Quiet Christian Would Speak Up 6th Up If The Gossiping Christian Would Shut UP 7th Up If The Lazy Christian Would Get Up That was my first time attending a 7-Up Service and I enjoyed it immensely. All the titles were Biblically taken. It was ended with a selection We Offer Christ to You. I was glad to have been a part of this service. Sarah (the Ham) Conway A BIG thank you to Dennis Broussard. I am the proud recipient of not only one but two of his paintings. I put in an order for a painting of our church several years ago. After showing the painting of our church, he received numerous orders from people in the community. He is a gifted artist that paints for the enjoyment rather than for the profit. As mentioned in a previous newsletter, several of the sick in the community was blessed with a painting from D. J. This was his way of using his talent and saying you are not forgotten and we are thinking and praying for you. He finally got around to me and surprised me with my painting of the church but also one of his famous cross. Thank you D. J. for having blessed me with your paintings. 1. 2. 3. 4.
