Many had been debating about the death penalty in Malaysia.

Malaysia is one of the fiftyeight countries in the world that still have the death penalty. In our opinion, death penalty should be abolished. Firstly, the main purpose of death penalty is only to serve as retribution or revenge. The death penalty is also flawed in application because there is a serious risk of executing innocent people because no matter how secure a system is, eventually someone will fall through the cracks and an innocent will be executed. Secondly, the convict could delay the length of his death sentence with endless appeals, delays, technicalities and retrials. This would keep on for years and would be mentally cruel to both the convict and the victims family. Although some might say that without death penalty, the crime rate would increase as the criminal wont be afraid to commit crimes. But we could overcome this problem by sentencing these criminal to be in jail for a lifetime. In conclusion, we strongly agree that death penalty should be abolished as it is flawed in application and the length of death sentence will be mentally cruel to both the victims family and the convict.
