INTRODUCTION
In 2003 WHO published a directory of health related NGOs. As a further step forward WHO decided to publish this directory including all organizations in the field of health. The selection of organizations in this directory was based on the following guide lines: The organizations included were presumed to be independent and non governmental. Hence governmental organizations such as Ministry of Health and universities were excluded. The organizations registered at the NGO Secretariat, AGAs Office and under Companys Act were included. In addition Professional Colleges, Associations, Societies and International Developmental Partners were included. Private hospitals were also included. We greatly appreciate the cooperation of all the organizations cooperated by way of providing information to make this project a reality.
MESSAGE FROM THE MINISTER OF HEALTH I sincerely appreciate the initiative of WHO Country Office in Sri Lanka to publish a directory of the health related partners and other health care Institutions in Sri Lanka named Partners in Health. I was informed that the Directory to be published by WHO will be a comprehensive register of information of the stake holders such as Councils, Professional Colleges, INGOs, NGOs and several other health care institutions in Sri Lanka. This directory can be easily referenced by anyone who would like to know who and what of the health sector. The names, address and email addresses, phone numbers, websites of subscribers, the services they provide and several other information will indeed be a convenient help to all concerned. I am very grateful to WHO that has been one of the most prominent UN Agencies in Sri Lanka always ready to help the Health Sector. I request that all those in the health sector will corporate and collaborate with WHO to make this publication a success.

FOREWORD Partnerships in health at country level aims to expand human resources, infrastructure and capacity to deliver health services in a more efficient and cost effective manner. Government programmes and sectors need to be linked with a number of other stakeholders such as NGOs, community and faith-based organizations and professional bodies and the private sector. The Non Governmental Organizations play an important role in the delivery of health services at grass root levels. Health coordination through the Non Governmental Sector was not optimal earlier as a comprehensive inventory was not available. This deficiency was fulfilled with the WHO initiative of publishing the Profile of Health Related NGOs in 2003. This was the only up-to-date inventory of Health Related NGOs in Sri Lanka and has assisted health care providers in coordinating their activities. WHO Country Office has taken a further step forward in publishing the second directory of health partners this year, which includes all partners in health including the Professional Colleges, Medical Associations and societies, Regulatory Bodies and International Development partners and the Private Sector in addition to the NGOs. This directory will complement the efforts of the Ministry of Health and other relevant Ministries of government of Sri Lanka in coordinating health and developmental activities at this critical juncture of progress in the country. I wish to express our appreciation for all those who contributed in compiling this directory and specially to the Marga Institute for undertaking the task, of compiling and collating the directory.
