From Roman settlement to Docklands regeneration, this 200 year old warehouse reveals the long history of London as a port through stories of trade, migration and commerce. Discover a wealth of objects from whale bones to World War II gas masks in state-of-the-art galleries, including Sailortown, an atmospheric recreation of 19th century Wapping, and London, Sugar & Slavery, which reveals the part the capital played in the transatlantic slave trade. With archaeological finds, unusual objects, fascinating talks, films and events, as well as an extensive archive and library, the Museum of London Docklands is one of the capitals hidden gems. The Museum is fully accessible to wheelchair users. The Galleries of Modern London include induction loops, Braille panels, touch objects and audio guides for the visually impaired. Free Vocaleyes tours are also available for visually impaired visitors and some lectures and walks can be BSL interpreted on request. DISPLAYS At Home with the Queen


Until 28 October 2012 This striking photographic display reflects Londoners enduring affection for the Queen, capturing them at home with their royal memorabilia.

19 October 2012 14 April 2013 Explore the early 19th century history of human dissection and the trade in dead bodies through dramatic evidence unearthed during Museum of London excavations at the Royal London Hospital. Bringing together human and animal remains, anatomical models and drawings, historical documents and original artefacts, the exhibition will reveal the shadowy practices prompted by a growing demand for corpses, and the intimate relationship between the surgeon-anatomists and the resurrection men who supplied them.
Due to its subject matter this exhibition is not recommended for children under 12. Online booking fee and timed entry apply.

A post-war bus tour


Sat 15 Sep, 2-5pm Enjoy an afternoon touring Londons post-war architecture in one of the citys 20th century icons an original red Routemaster bus. Historian and working London bus driver, Professor Joe Kerr, will lead this unique tour, mapping the architectural innovations and experiments that shaped post-war London.

Murder and grave-robbery in 1830s London


Mon 19 Nov, 7-8.30pm The gory business of body snatching in 19th century London has an enduring appeal in popular fantasy. Author Sarah Wise reveals that truth can be much stranger than fiction. Wise explores the grotesque world of the resurrectionists, and paints a haunting picture of the lives of the hopelessly poor in London whose fate, often bound up with this brutal reality, is largely forgotten.

DOCKLANDS CINEMA CLUB


Watch a great film every month screened in a Grade I listed Georgian warehouse, with introductions by leading writers, directors, critics and fans. Screenings take place on the second Friday of every month. Tickets can be bought for individual screenings, or for an annual fee of 25 (18 concs) members can enjoy 6 free Docklands Cinema Club tickets per year.

Fri 12 Oct, 7-9pm To mark black history month, join us for a film which is a potent mix of music and social commentary about the young black community in 1980s South London.
