Atlas Copco Air Dryers

FD refrigeration air dryer series - 60 Hz

QUALITY DRY AIR

Environmentally friendly, quality dry air from FD a cost-efficient compressed air system

Your manufacturing operation

needs quality dry air to help avoid the risk of product contamination and to eliminate damage to the compressed air system.

The problem

Compressed air entering the

airnet is always 100% saturated with water vapour. When cooling down, this moisture will condense, causing damage not only to your compressed air system, but also to your finished products.

With the introduction of the latest

Atlas Copco high performance FD refrigerant dryers, you can be assured of quality dry air at all times. Furthermore, the advanced technology of the units with R134a and R404A refrigerants ensures they are environmentally friendly and that they meet all the current and future international environmental regulations.

Without a dryer 90 l of water will enter your air system on an average day. An Atlas Copco FD dryer removes virtually all of the moisture before it reaches your air system.

Moisture can seriously harm your compressed air system...

... unless you install an FD dryer

On an average day, with ambient

air at 25C and relative humidity at 70%, a compressor rated at 200 l/s will take in about 280 l of water per day in vapour form alongside the air.

To eliminate the problems caused

by moisture carryover, Atlas Copco offers a comprehensive new range of FD refrigerant dryers to precisely match your installation.

After compression and cooling

the vapour turns to liquid, which will harm your system if not removed. Although the aftercooler eliminates about two-thirds of the moisture (approximately 190 l), the remaining one-third flows freely through your system, still capable of causing severe damage to the system. The end result could be high maintenance and repair costs, as well as spoiled product.

Dry compressed air keeps pneumatic systems running smoothly and production lines rolling. It eliminates the need for elaborate separator, filter and condensate drain systems. Dry air from the FD dryer prevents leaks and pressure drops due to corrosion, saves on maintenance and repair costs, increases the overall efficiency of your compressed air system and is your guarantee of manufacturing a quality end product.

From the smallest FD16 to the biggest FD1600, Atlas Copco FD dryers cover a full range of capacities and working pressures, to perfectly match your installation requirements.

(FD160-1600) or a hot gas by-pass valve (FD16-130) maintains a stable pressure dew point.

7 The air-to-air heat exchanger* precools the incoming air with the outlet air, increasing the efficiency of the dryer, preventing condensation and reducing the power consumption downstream of the dryer. * Heat exchangers are compact aluminium cooler blocks, designed for maximum heat transfer and minimal pressure drop.

Air circuit Incoming compressed air (A) is precooled in the air-to-air heat A exchanger (B), passes through the air-to-refrigerant heat exchanger (C) B C where it's cooled down to +4C. The condensate is separated from the air and automatically drained by the water separator (D). Before D leaving (E) the cold dry air passes for a second time through the air-toE air heat exchanger to be reheated. Refrigerant circuit From the compressor (F) the refrigerant gas comes in the F condenser (G) where it is cooled by a high volume cooling fan / or G cooling water and becomes liquid. A capillary tube or a pressure regulated expansion valve (H) regulates the flow into the air-toH refrigerant heat exchanger (C) where the refrigerant evaporates by C extracting heat from the compressed air. The refrigerant pressure is then increased in the compressor and the cycle starts again.
