SITTING RULE
There is a rule that players must have at least one buttock on the floor when contact is made with the ball, which makes life interesting for the umpires.
ORIGINS Sitting Volleyball emerged in the Netherlands in the 1950s, a combination of volleyball and a German game called sitzbal.

LIBERO
Each team is allowed one 'libero', whose task is to act as a specialist defensive player. Introduced to the game in 1998, the libero is not allowed to play any attacking shots and wears a different colour shirt to the rest of the team.
