A Summary of Dr.

Noah Weiss Observations in Vietnam The owner and Primary Physician at Weiss Orthopaedics, Noah Weiss traveled to Peoples Hospital 115 in Saigon, Vietnam, where he was eagerly greeted by a staff who hoped he could teach them techniques for their newly received arthroscope. The doctors had been using it on patients knees but now wanted to learn how to use it for shoulder repair. After Dr. Weiss arrived, he realized that the doctors not only needed lessons on the arthroscope but also a refresher on some of the basics of surgery. He marveled at some of the major differences between his work at Weiss Orthopaedics back home in California and the work the surgeons did at Peoples Hospital 114. For example, the doctors wore plastic sandals, even during surgery, standing in body fluids and other waste. Additionally, the doctors were very good at recycling anything they could, since supplies were low and hard to obtain on their budget. Noah Weiss continues to return to Vietnam, imparting more wisdom and bringing along new supplies and models for the doctors. Since he began his work there, he has seen a tremendous improvement in medical training and technique.
