Old Lights And New Lights Old Lights And New Lights are used in Christian circles to distinguish between two groups who were initially the same, but have come to a disagreement. If the denomination splits, those who did change are referred to the old lights. And the one who did change are referred to New lights.

The first Great Awakening was a Christian revitalization movement that swept protestant Europe and British America, and especially the America colonies in 1730s and 1740s.It brought Christianity to African slaves and was a monumental event in New England that Challenged established authority.

The revival stared with Jonathan Edwards, the leading American theologian of the colonial era and a Congregationalist minister in Northampton, Massachusetts.
