Policy on Faculty Development for Residents, Chief Residents, and Fellows 1.

As part of the credentialing process, all residents and fellows in the North Shore-LIJ Health System are required to participate in an orientation related to teaching of medical students as well as policies and procedures of the School of Medicine. Thus, participation is a prerequisite to starting training. 2. All residents in the Health System are strongly encouraged to participate in the Resident as Teacher faculty development program sponsored by the Associate Dean for Educational Skills Development. 3. All Chief Residents are required to participate in the Chief Resident: Leader, Manager, and Mentor sessions sponsored by the Associate Dean for Educational Skills Development. In the event that a Chief Resident does not participate, his/her Department Chair is notified and he/she is expected to attend a make-up session. Compliance with this policy is monitored by the Office of Graduate Medical Education and the Associate Dean for Educational Skills Development.
