Aros Mackey In the Texas v.

Johnson case, the Supreme Court decided with Johnson, that he has a right to burn the US flag in political protest. I do not agree. I see the burning of the US Flag, on US soil, as a demonstration of treason. If he does not pledge allegiance to the flag, then whom is his allegiance to? I can see Johnson's point, that he is protesting President Reagans Policies, and he should have a right to do so. So it begs the question; does the flag represent Reagan, and/or his policies? I would argue that it does not. It not only represents America, but it is America. If we can protect the Bald Eagle as the National Bird, why cant we protect the national flag? I found myself in offence when I read the Justices trifling with Ms. Drew, asking her if the state flower aught to be protected, and also trying to use The Cross as a direct example. These are justices of The US Supreme Court, and they are not comedians, (although they seamed to enjoy the crowd laughing) and they know better than to use the Cross as an example. America has no established religion, so law would never protect the Cross. So my conclusion of Johnson is, if he is to burn the US Flag, maybe he can wrap himself in it first.
