Associated Student Government University of Arkansas ASG Senate Resolution No. 12 Authors: Senator Shaelyn Vinson, RIC Senator Joe Youngblood Sponsor: Senator Shaelyn Vinson A Resolution to Support the Installation of New Crosswalks at the Union Garage Intersection Whereas, Whereas, University of Arkansas has an established policy promoting crosswalks as an important part of campus safety; and The current crosswalk situation at the junction of the Union parking garage and the access road is not only illogical, but is inconsistent with the aforementioned policy, and has led to numerous close encounters between pedestrians and vehicles; and The establishment of additional crosswalks at the north and east side of the intersection would greatly enhance and promote the safety of pedestrians, avert imminent tragedies, and serve to clarify and expedite traffic flow; then The Associated Student Government recommends that Facilities Management, UAPD, and Parking & Transit collaborate to install two additional crosswalks at the Union Garage intersection on the east and north sides to allow pedestrians a safe and legal way to cross the intersection; and ASG also suggests that reflective crosswalk signs be placed in strategic locations, particularly at the west crosswalk near the top of the hill, in order to further mitigate the potential of accidents; and That the existing crosswalks on the west and south side be repainted to enhance their visibility.
