The BJBE ISRAEL COMMITTEE and CLERGY TEAM invite you to join us as BJBE welcomes
ALEX CICELSKY Founder of the Center for Creative Ecology and a founder of Kibbutz Lotan
SHABBAT SERVICES FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 7:30PM
Located in the Southern Arava, Kibbutz Lotan is one of two Reform Kibbutzim in Israel. Their community's mission is to live Jewishly, equitably and in an environmentally sustainable way. They run programs for visiting for international groups of all ages who come to learn first hand about the kibbutz's sustainable building techniques, recycling, organic farming, water recycling and waste management, permaculture and philosophy of eco-village living. Founding member, Alex Cicelsky will share the story of Kibbutz Lotan, its history, and plans for the future.
ADULT EDUCATION SUNDAY, DECEMBER 2, 9:45-10:45AM
Kibbutz Lotan has been a leader in community based environmental action and education since 1995. Their dedication to conservation and sustainable development is in tune with the worldwide movements dealing with reducing pollution and recycling. As Jews in a Jewish country, they were labeled as Eco-Jews. Can we base "Eco-Judaism" on inherent environmental ethics found in the Bible and Jewish tradition on which we can base our choices or are we stretching our interpretations?
Alex comes to BJBE through the support of ARZA The Reform Israel Fund.
