Henry David Thoreau Biography Born in 1817 who looked into nature to seek ultimate truth in life Attended Harvard University which was paid for by his brother John, who died in 1842 by cutting himself from shaving dying from lockjaw Worked for several years as a surveyor and pencil maker (9 years or so) Wrote a novel but at first no one liked it, rewrote it 7 times Henry found greater joy in daily life and always looked to nature to find a meaning to life Died in 1862, age 44, from Tuberculosis Walden Chapter 2 Walden Chapter 4 Walden Chapter 5 Walden Chapter 16 Walden Chapter 17 Ralph Waldo Emerson Biography Nature What is American Transcendentalism?
