ARUM85EKM: Marketing Management MBA 2012/13 Assignment 1: Technical exercise with a report of results of 1,000 to 2,000 words.

Marks 30% Nature: Group assignment (maximum 4 people) The report will assess learning outcome 3: Select and apply a range of tools and techniques in marketing management with due regard to their benefits and limitations TASK The students are expected to select a firm in either manufacturing or service industry and write a report on the following marketing techniques/strategies as applied by the firm:

1. Product mix 5 marks 2. Pricing strategies 5 marks 3. Distribution strategies 5 marks 4. Marketing communication strategies 5 marks

Assessment will be broken into two: 1. Written Report 20 marks 2. Class presentation 10 marks Marks awarded in the report will be based on: Breadth and relevance of information with regard to marketing management tools. Critical evaluation of the tools and techniques with due regard to their benefits and limitations.

Your information may include both secondary and primary data. You may visit the industry, if possible, to obtain first hand information. Note: the firm should be those categorized as medium-sized and above. The selected firms will have to be endorsed in the class. Presentation assessment criteria: Clarity of presentation Capture of key issues techniques, benefits, limitations Ability to respond to questions Familiarity with presentation
