WHAT IS IT???
Council for Exceptional Children states, a condition exhibiting one or more of the following characteristics over a long period of time and to a marked degree, which adversely affects educational performance: An inability to learn which cannot be explained by intellectual, sensory, or health factors. An inability to build or maintain satisfactory interpersonal relationships with peers and teachers. Inappropriate types of behavior or feelings under normal circumstances. A general pervasive mood of unhappiness or depression. A tendency to develop physical symptoms or fears associated with personal or school problems, (IDEA).

National Dissemination Center for Children Disabilities states, IDEA was originally enacted by Congress in 1975 to ensure that children with disabilities have the opportunity to receive a free appropriate public education, just like other children,(IDEA).

Emotional Disturbance has no significance to its direct causes, however specific factors such as; heredity, brain disorder, diet, stress, and family functioning have been suggested to its lead causes.

Looking for SUPPORT????? Children with emotional disturbance in their life require significant amounts of attention delivering emotional and behavioral support. The support needed is based upon a large spectrum varying from social skills, self-control, self-esteem, and ultimately mastering in academics. In most cases children will be assigned an IEP along psychological or counseling services which is required by law. These specific services can be provided by a variety of specialists such as social workers and guidance counselors. Along with counseling career education is required in secondary education along with every child who has an IEP.
