This debates the integrity of the tobacco companies. It also debates the intent of the advertisement controls on cigarette ads. For instance, what is it that distinguishes if the ad is implying the cigarette causes more virility? Allen, John H. "Tobacco Institute Says Report 'Is Not Final Chapter' in Debate Over Health Issue." The New York Times [New York] 12 Jan. 1964: 66. Print. This article shows how the tobacco industry isn't willing to go down without a fight. They deny the government's report on smoking as the last word. They believe this to be an unfinished debate. campaign.jpg>. This is a recent anti-smoking advertisement. It is directed towards parents. This is useful in showing how the anti-ads industry has developed. Print. Unlike many of the other articles, this one isn't jam packed with information about smoking and cigarettes. An occassional comment is thrown in, but mostly it does what a newspaper article should. It puts the reader in the story. A sort of time-machine for those of us who read it. This shows some of the possibly invalid points made in the first surgeon general's report. But it also backs up a lot of statements with research much older. A Simple Cigarette. Made in China. "Cigarettes Peril Health, U.S. Report Concludes; 'Remedial Action' Urged." The New York Times [New York] 12 Jan. 1964, Front Page: 1. Print. This article is one of the main summaries of the effects stemming from the report. It also briefly overviews the possible plans in the future. Although they sate that it is not proven smoking is directly related to lung cancer, they encourage very strongly (with the public's benefit in mind) for people to assume there is such a relationship. This is a website that includes many news articles, a timeline, tips for smokers, and more. It was useful for me in checking some of my sources and attaining a little extra substance. appears to be a college project done by a junior at Harvard College. This states everything I was planning on saying in my own website. This website is done by a retired humanities student. He had spent a lot of his life making a large timeline in his basement. He eventually published it to an online database. This is an extremely massive timeline of the life of tobacco. It follows it through its first steps of infancy, all the way through its current political struggles and medical discoveries. Wand, Kelly, ed. Tobacco and Smoking. New York: GreenHaven, 2012. Print. This book specializes in recent information and multiple viewpoints. It strives to show all aspects of the issue and not be biased towards one. It does so by having many authors. The editor is given for simplicity's sake.
