Ches Revolution

Adam Dunlap Individual Website

Revolutions and mass struggles have always fascinated me in the way a group of people can come together and unite for a common good. At first I thought that governments and rulers were invincible and could never be overthrown, but then I realized that its up to the people who stays in power and who goes. I learned of the Cuban leader Fidel Castro early in life, as Cuba is a very close country to my own. Being interested in the status of Cuba being lead by a tyrant, I researched the topic a few years ago to found new information. I learned that in the beggining Castro lead a rebel army to Cuba to overthrow the corrupt Baptista Regime that was ruling at the rime. From here I learned of Castros second in command, an Argentinian doctor turned revolutionary named Ernesto Che Guevara. His story fascinated me and I delved deeper into the subject, learning of his story and his ideas on Socialism and Marxism. I chose this topic this year because I wanted to learn more about this influencial revolutionary leader. To find information on Guevara, I first checked my school and local libraries, finding several great biographies of him. I took notes on a few key points then searched the internet where I found several more biographical websites and even a few online archives of his speeches and government documents. Finally, I found a report done by the USMC on Guevara which contained crucial information about his rise and fall as a rebel leader. I learned Guevaras life story, and reasons behind his revolutionary motives. I took info from all of these sources to include in my website. I selected the website category because I thought that creating a website would be a great user friendly way to display Guevaras story. I also have prior experience in creating webpages due to a class I took in 10th grade. For my project, I looked back on my sources and pulled information and pictures from many of them. I sorted through the information to try and create a cohesive, chronocological website centering on Guevaras revolutionary spirit.

My topic relates to the theme quite well. First off, Ernesto Guevara inspired and helped with several key revolutions that would turn the coarse of history in many countires. The most notable of these was his participation in the Cuban Revolution, which completely altered Cubas government and resulted in an embargo on American trade. Guevaras ideas would spur revolutions in other countries and his legacy would live on as a pioneer in mass struggles, guerrilla warefare, and revolution.
