Local lawyer arrested on sex assault charges

By Kyle Jarvis Sentinel Staff | Posted: Saturday, January 26, 2013 8:00 am A longtime Rindge resident and lawyer is charged with sexually assaulting a child in the 1990s. Jason A. Czekalski, 51, faces one count of aggravated felonious sexual assault and two counts of felonious sexual assault. The charges stem from an alleged pattern of sexual abuse that occurred between March 1993 and December 1995, and involved an 11-year-old girl, according to court documents. The complaints against Czekalski allege he abused the victim by touching her in a sexual way over the course of nearly two and a half years. Affidavits in the case, which typically provide a narrative summarizing how the charges were brought forth, have been sealed and are not available to the public or the media, a court official said. Czekalski was arraigned Friday afternoon in 8th Circuit Court District Division in Jaffrey following his arrest in the morning at his Thomas Road home. Rindge Police Chief Francis C. Morrill Jr. said the allegations were recently brought to the departments attention through a formal complaint process, but declined to disclose further details. The arrest was the result of an investigation by the Rindge Police Department and the N.H. State Police conducted over the past several months, police said in a statement. Czekalski is being held at the Cheshire County jail for lack of $5,000 bail, and will be back in court for a probable cause hearing on Jan. 29, police said.
