o12.htm>. This site shows pictures of the Soviet troops and around the areas of war. I used this to help me get a picture of what it looked like during the time of the war. The pictures helped me understand the topic because I got a better look at what was happeneing during the war. I classified this a primary source because these are actual pictures from the event. The only limitation this website has is that it is completey in Russian and I had to use Google Translate to understand what this website was.

"9/11 Attacks History.com Articles, Video, Pictures and Facts." History.com History Made Every Day American & World History. Web. 23 Jan. 2012. <http://www.history.com/topics/9-11-attacks>. This website speaks on the September 11th attack. It shows the exact time and place and gives very good details on the event throughout the whole day it happened. I used when talking about and effect of the Al-Qaeda because it was this group that caused the attack. I also used this to show that this reformed the US today by making the US start the Drone War and spending money on all the heavy artilery. This helped me understand the topic because it helped me see that the Al-Qaeda were a very deadly group and werent going to stop attacking people. Also that the US were caught of guard with this attack. This is classified as a primary source because it is on a dependable history website with its own channel. Also because it has details from other news channels and exact times of when things happened. In this website I didnt find any limitations with it because it gave very detailed pictures and information on the event.

"Afghanistan and the Soviet Withdrawal 1989 20 Years Later." The George Washington University. Web. 13 Oct. 2011. <http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB272/>. All these documents listed show the ending of the war after the Soviet withdrawal. Some are conversations while others are just what event is occuring at the moment. I used this to find out about what was internally happening after the Soviet's withdrew between Afghan and the USSR because you only saw what was happening to others but not what was going thorugh the heads of the officials.. This helped me understand how the withdrawal lead to other historical events happening. I classified this as a primary source because these are acutal documents and conversations between officials that they found. So far there seem to be no limitations this website.

"Afghanistan: Lessons from the Last War." The George Washington University. Web. 27 Sept. 2011. <http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB57/soviet.html>. The following article is about the USSR and their plan to withdraw from Afghanistan. The USSR were the Soviet's in the Soviet Afghan war. I used this for the general information of my topic on what was happening before the Soviets withdrew and why it took so long. This was another source that helped me understand the Soviets withdrawal was a very long process. Also that they wouldnt be successful in trying to shift the government in the eastern part of the world. I classified this as a primary source because its an accurate document translated to English for other historians to read. The limitation to this site were some were of the documents werent translated completely and harder to understand while others were just loaded differently making them hard to understand

"Afghanistan Reconstruction Efforts." C-Span. Web. 31 Oct. 2002. <http://www.cspanvideo.org/program/ReconstructionE>. This video shows the Afghan Ambassador to the U.S talking about rebuilding Afghanistan after the fall of the Taliban. He spoke on the subjects of their economy, government, and foreign relations. I used this to write in my process paper part of the affects of the Taliban coming. This helped me understand more of the reactions to my topic. I was able to see more people after the Taliban took over. I classified this as a primary source because this was a live person watching the war. Also because C-Span is a reliable interviewing source. The were no limitations so far in this video.

"BBC NEWS | South Asia | Timeline: Soviet War in Afghanistan." BBC News - Home. Web. 23 Jan. 2012. <http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/7883532.stm>. This website was used to show a timeline of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. It also shows the exact month if possible the event happened. I used this when making my own timeline to get exact times of events. I also used in when describing the event to go more in depth of the invasion I t helped me understand my topic because it helped me see all the details in between the invasion and withdrawal and that it wasn't just an immediate thing that happened. Also that there were also a lot more people involved in the process then I thought were. This is classified as primary source because BBC is a dependable news network used by many mostly in the UK. It gives accurate information especially in this article on the Soviet Invasion. Limitations to this website are that the month isnt there for very event so I did have to improvise on this in my timeline. The words used do show signs that it was made in the UK because of some spelling errors but still at a higher level.

"Cold War." GlobalSecurity.org - Reliable Security Information. Web. 09 Nov. 2011. <http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ops/cold_war.htm>. This discusses the relations between the U.S and Russia in the Cold War. It was called the

Cold war because both enemies were afraid of fighting each other directly and in was they called a hot war nuclear weapons could destroy everything. I used this when talking about the relationship between the U.S and Russia and how this war broke into other areas of the war. Also how this affected the decisions of the U.S during the Soviet and Afghan war and helping afghan fight against the Soviets. I classified this as a primary source because it is a global site on military activity and what has happened in the past. The only limitation to this website is the organization is hard to follow. "Cold War." History.com. A&E Television Networks, n.d. Web. 14 Nov. 2012. <http://www.history.com/topics/cold-war>. This website is a trusted informational location with unlimited history topics. I focused on their information of the Cold War. This website is extremely useful because it doesn't just give text information but also visuals such as videos and pictures. Sometimes it may even include an interactive timeline. I found no limitations to this website because even if the information you require isn't in the text they have other links to different websites that may have your desired information. This website is directed towards anyone inquiring about a specific topic in history. The reliability of this website is one hundred percent because they even publish other forms of information for use in education. My reaction to this website is that its an amazing source of information without much need for any further explanation on something you don't understand because it will be broken down in a sub topic for you on the site.

Denker, Debra. "A Life Revealed - Original Story." National Geographic Magazine. Web. 23 Jan. 2012. <http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2002/04/afghan-girl/original-storytext/1>. This true story is about a girl in Afghanistan who has been affected by the war only five years after it ended. It speaks of her having to host mujahideen commanders and meetings in her home. I used this article in my website as on the effects of the war. I used this for people to understand what the Afghanistan people were going thorugh after this. It helped me understand that even though the Soviets withdrew from Afghanistan that it still majorly effected the Afghan people. I classified this as a primary source because this article came from National Geographic which is a world known history source to many. Also because this is from when executive from national geographic came to see these people. The only limitation this may have is that it is considerably short but does help when you look more into what its telling you.

"Excert from Top Secret File Meeting." Web. <http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB57/r22.pdf>. This was used to learn

about what was going on before the Soviet's finally withdrew because it was an ongoing plan after being out numbered the Afghan. This helped me understand my topic because it helped me understand how long of a process it really was for the Soviet's to finally withdraw. I classified this as a primary source because it was a real document written from that time that was found and supposed to be a top secret file. The limitatio to this is that it is partly in Russian and also that because of t way it was written i was hard to follow at times.

"How the Drone War Plays Out in Pakistans Tribal Areas | Kill/Capture | FRONTLINE | PBS." PBS: Public Broadcasting Service. Web. 23 Jan. 2012. <http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/afghanistan-pakistan/kill-capture/how-thedrone-war-plays-out-in-pakistans-tribal-areas/>. This website shows the aftermath and effects of the Drone War or Program stared by the US to get rid of Taliban and Al-Qaeda leaders. The Drone war was a very dangerous mission in the C.I.A where the US shot drone missiles wherever they thought leaders were hiding or living or being held. I used this as another one of my effects of the withdrawal because after the Al-Qaeda made their first attack the US wanted revenge. This helped me understand my topic a lot more. This is because it helped me realize that even though wars were numerically over on paper physically they still go on today. I classified this as a primary source because it was written on PBS which also nationally shared with others and used by kids. The only limitation to this was I felt it couldve had more details and the links were everywhere and took you everywhere.

"Osama Bin Laden Interview (1998) | Video - ABC News." ABCNews.com: Daily News, Breaking News and Video Broadcasts - ABC News. 2 May 2011. Web. 09 Oct. 2011. <http://abcnews.go.com/2020/video/osama-bin-laden-interview-1998-13506629>. This is an interview with Osama bin Laden three years before the famous 9/11 attack. They talk to him about the current attacks against the U.S. He stated that he wouldnt stop until he saw the U.S in wooden coffins and that we were the biggest terrorists of all. I used this to focus on Osama bin Laden before and after the Soviet Afghan war and the U.S participation during this time. This helped understand that Osama almost seemed to look forward to fighting with the U.S and seeing us die. I classified this as a primary source because Osama bin Laden and his group the Al-Qaeda actually participated in the Soviet Afghan war and with U.S attacks. The only limitation to this video is that you dont hear Osama talk for to long a time just short snippets and then narration from the interviewer.

Secondary Sources 21, November. "The Taliban Infoplease.com." Infoplease: Encyclopedia, Almanac, Atlas, Biographies, Dictionary, Thesaurus. Free Online Reference, Research & Homework Help. Infoplease.com. Web. 13 Oct. 2011. <http://www.infoplease.com/spot/taliban.html#ixzz1ZrsypaJt>. The website describes who the Taliban is and has links to details on other topics. I used this website to learn about the Taliban and who they were. The links helped me to also learn who the Al-Qaeda was and their releation with the Taliban and Osama Bin Laden. This helped me understand my topic because after learning about the war and hearing the Taliban I wanted to know exactly who they were. I classified this as a secondary source because this was made by people who weren't actually at the event.

"The Forever WarThe Drone Wars Christmas Truce The Paltry Sapien." The Paltry Sapien. Web. 23 Jan. 2012. <http://www.thepaltrysapien.com/2011/12/the-forever-war-thedrone-wars-christmas-truce/>. This article is another one I viewed on the Drone War also known as the forever war. It mostly talked about the destruction this war did and that it wasnt a very humane thing for the US to do because it killed so many innocent people in the process. I used this to get the actual number facts for how many were killed in the Drone attacking. I added this to the article also on the Drone war so that they can come together to show both parts of the missile striking. It helped me understand even more so that the withdrawal of the Soviets and the war in general really effected the US today putting it in its current position. I classified this as a secondary source because it isnt a well known trusted source. Also because the website is dealing with history it deals with all things newsworthy. Limitations to this website is that its not a primary source so you cant trust all information given to you so you have to research if its accurate or not.

Johnrosssssss. "(Raw Video) Taliban Execution of Two Women in Afghanistan YouTube." YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. Youtube, 19 July 2008. Web. 1 Nov. 2011. <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzguXsBYReI>. This is an example of the horrible treatment the Taliban gave women after they began their reign. After the Taliban came to power they made all these jurisdictions on women. I used this to view how extreme the Taliban took their laws. This made me understand that the Taliban were stricter than they seemed to be in writing. Some articles reported people thinking Afghanistan was better under the Taliban but this shows that it couldnt possibly be enjoyed by everyone meaning the women especially. I classified this a a secondary source because you dont know where this person got the video from but it looks accurate

Maley, William. The Afghanistan Wars. Houndmills, Basingstoke, Hampshire: Palgrave, 2002. Print. This book broke down every part of the Soviet and Afghan war. It showed how the war was started, the consequences of the Soviet withdrawal, and the ris and fall of the Taliban. I used this to learn what the war was and why it started. Also to learn who was effected by the war and the Soviet withdrawal. This really helped me understand my topic because before I didn't know much about the war and how it started. Before I only knew that Osama Bin Laden was somehow connected but I never knew how. This is a secondary source book it is written by a historian who wasn't at the actual event. These are just facts that the author researched and found.

"The Rise and Fall of the Taliban." Worldpress.org - World News From World Newspapers. Web. 23 Jan. 2012. <http://worldpress.org/specials/pp/brief_taliban_timeline.htm>. This website focuses on the ups and downs of the Taliban through the years of 1996-2001. It helped us learn the things that the Taliban has done after the Soviet and Afghan War and throughout the 9/11 attack. It also gives information on Osama Bin Laden and the 9/11 attack which was used on our website. We used the information from this website on the 9/11 attack and the Taliban and Kabal differences. This website is a secondary source, because it doesnt give firsthand information from the Taliban themselves. The limitations for this website would be for middle and up due to the vocabulary that the website has.
