The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

1.) Who tells the story the narrator or the caterpillar? How do you know?

2.) How do we know that the caterpillar is a very hungry caterpillar and not just a hungry caterpillar? What does the author say that makes us realize that?

3.) On Saturday, the caterpillar gets a stomachache from all that he has eaten? Why didnt he get a stomachache any of the other days? Make sure we use details from the story in our answer! OR 4.) 5.) How do we know that eating the green leaf was a better (healthier) choice for the caterpillar? What clues can you find in the words the author uses?

7.) What is the little house that the caterpillar builds around himself? OR 8.) How does the author help us understand what cocoon means?

9.) The story tells us that the caterpillar stays inside his cocoon for 2 weeks! What happens to the caterpillar while hes inside? How do you know that? OR 10.) How long did it take to go from a cocoon to a butterfly?

Harriet and the Roller Coaster by Nancy Carlson

1.) I know that Harriet says she is not scared to ride the roller coaster, but I think she is. Can you find some evidence from the story that says Harriet might be a little nervous?

2.) George tells Harriet to hurry up. What does that tell us about how she is walking? Why is she walking that way?

3.) How does George feel about riding the roller coaster? Can we find some details in the story that tell us this?
