FROM THE DESK OF SECRETARY: 2009-2010

Dear Members, The Governing Body is pleased to present the Fifteenth Annual Report and the audited accounts for the financial year ended March 31, 2010.

In an increasingly fast changing world and in the backdrop of the financial meltdown successful the in Society receiving has been

continuous

support from the Donors. It is this faith/trust of the Donors that has assisted the Society to complete another eventful year. A significant increase in the amount of donations received has enabled the Mission not only service the loan taken for the construction of the School building but also make further additions to the existing structure. We are slowly and steadily marching ahead and

with this kind of support from the Donors, it is simply a matter of couple of years when construction of the school building will be completed.

The society realizes the importance of education and will continue to support the needy in their pursuit of knowledge. The Society has continued to provide Scholarship for education. Bodhisukha School Since its inception the Mission has paid special attention to promotion of Education. The Mission believes that education is true means of Socio-economic and intellectual advancement of the society. Every child at least deserves primary education irrespective of caste, religion or socio-economic background. Mission aims at developing full mental and physical potential of each child. Established in 2001, Bodhisukha school has given quality education to the needy and poor students. 180 students are admitted in classes from LN to X. These students are mainly belonged to poorer category of population (Minority Muslims, SCs, STs and economically under developed General Castes). The School The

provides them quality education with much thrust on literacy, numeracy, social and cultural concept promotions among the students and guardians specially the mothers. Teachers Training

In order to improve the teaching quality, the Bodhisukha School also conducts teachers training from time to time. It is no doubt that this training has given great encouragement not only to increase teachers capacity to handle the students, undertake modern methodology of teaching and creation of fearless teaching and learning environment but also to engage the greater role of the guardian, who are, in fact, more important to bring the students to main stream of the nation.

Environment Day Observation In addition to celebration of

national important days such as 15 August, 26 Junuary, the school also observed Environment day to

increase the awareness of the importance of environment among the children. On the occasion the school provided each student group to plant some trees so that they can develop Unity environmental awareness. It is true and

many people are still neglected about the environmental issues affecting on our universe. Annual Sports-day and Annual Excursion Every year since its inception Bodhisukha school used to organized Annual Sportsday and Annual excursion. This year, too, the school has conducted the Annual Sports-day and Annual Excursion on18/12/ 2009 and 23/12/2009 respectively. This year Annual Sports-day is very eventful. At the end of the sport, many pilgrims coming from Myanmar and the guardians of the students participated in some events such as blind hit, balance-race etc. It is just Indo-Burma competition. In Annual Excursion Tour to Rose Valley Park nearby some students and guardians are participated. The school is very much delighted to give opportunity to the students to experiment themselves during the excursion. It is our pleasure that communities are honoring our performances and achievement. Though the school is not yet affiliated to CBSE board, we expect it may be affiliated to the said board in next year. The process is under way. Even it is not yet affiliated, the school is imparting the Class IX and X by affiliating with sister-concern school, Bodhicariya Sr. Secondary School, which has been already affiliated to the board. Besides, the school also organized free health check up for welfare of the students for every three months. We believe the theory of Prevention is better than Cure.

Meditation Camp

The Mission continues to hold Meditation camps to help us overcome the ills of the modern world and provides us an insight to our own potential. Meditation is way of healthy life and an indispensable instrument to redirect the very basic

instincts of human being for benefit of the human civilization at large. The strength of a nation depends on the quality of its citizens, of which Health plays a very significant role. Health awareness about common ailments and its cure, which will help us removing misconceptions about them amongst downtrodden people and a class of the society which finds itself at great disadvantage when trying to connect with world. It is here that the Society is acting like a bridge and passing on the

relevant information to these people and enabling them to lead a healthy life and at the same time preventing infectious diseases from spreading. His

Holiness Alodawpyeit Sayadaw Venerable Dr. Ariyavamsa is world famous meditation teacher from Myanmar. The Sayadaw has enlighten us with his well experience meditation technique. His outstanding meditation will surely bring about peace and harmony among the community.

The Society is also interested in building better and healthy "Bharat", that is, the rural India. Microfinance is one such mode which can change drastically the rural economics and its dynamics.

However, the Mission is exploring its feasibility from the legal angle and will soon pursue once all the legal formalities are completed. In its pursuit to assist rural people, the society had organized an animal husbandry camp in association with an NGO called

Association for Rural Development to impart education on poultry farming and healthy way of keeping and nurturing cattles.

SELF HELP GROUP (SHG) FOR RURAL DEVELOPMENT The Mission is geared to convert the advantage arising out of the current situation and redirect them for the general good of the people and humanity at large. We look forward to the future with great hope and with full realization of our responsibilities towards the society. Microfinance or micro credit program is the best tool for development poorer section of the society. It is world-wide accepted. Keeping these responsibilities in mind, the Mission has started SHG by forming rural women group early this year. During the year it reached momentum. So many women have changed their livelihood after getting our assistance. Out of many successful transformations of rural lives, one success story may be given here. Success Story of Mamta Bibi

Health Care Services For any living beings health is the most important. Nobody can enjoy the life fully without good health. Therefore, health care is the most important vital part of our life. Time to time the Mission has conducted Health Care Awareness, HIV/AIDS Awareness, World Kidney Day, Blood Donation etc. The Mission has given accommodation to the people who not only come from far eastern India but also coming from Bangladesh and Myanmar. They came here for better treatment in Kolkata. There were many people who are leading their normal lives after getting better treatment here in Kolkata. It is our great pleasure to render our sincere

referral and interpretation services to those patients. One case study may be given here. Mr. Burbadhan Tripura, aged 35, son of Jinnaram Tripura, along with his
younger brother and one friend has come to our Mission on 29th July 09 for medical Check-up. Earlier he was in Govt. Hospital in Tripura for many days. Tripura Govt. Hospital referred him to SSKM Govt. Hospital in Kolkata for better treatment. The doctors from SSKM Hospital advised him to get admission immediately. However, it was very unfortunate that the Hospital Superitendent could not provide him any bed. He has to wait indefinite period. In the meantime his condition is deteriorating. We could not sit seeing his suffering. Burbadhan Tripura, Tripuri tribes, having Rheumatic Heart Disease with severe Calcific Mitral and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, was born on 11/08/1975 at a remote village called Kalachara Para, P.O. Boratali, P.S. Manu Bazar, Sabroom Sub-division, Dist. South Tripura, Tripura, India. Tripuri tribes are seen only in the State of Tripura. Most of these tribal people are farmers, having low source of Income. Being born in such remote area among poor backward minorities, Burbadhan cannot afford all medical expenses. Even he never visited big cities like Kolkata. It was his friend who has brought him here. We started to think what we can do for him. Accordingly we went to Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals, Kolkata, with which we are having tie-up for Health Care Services. We met Dr. Ramesh Sheshadhri, Cardio Surgeon, who has helped us a lot for getting discount from Hospital. He was admitted to hospital on 17/08/09 and operation has been done successfully on 21/08/09 along with Mitral Valve replacement. He was discharged from hospital after being stable on 28/08/09. The total cost for his medical treatment is Rs.

227,651/-. The Mission sanctioned Rs. 20,000 and hospital has also given contribution Rs. 57,651/-. Staying at our Mission both pre-operative and post operative free of charge of fooding and lodging, now he is doing his follow-up, and waiting for the doctors signal for returning home. Finally I would like to thank all the members and staff who continue to support us all through, without whom it would have been impossible to achieve so much in such short span of time.
