ABA 202 Topic 2 Agency relationship in Kenya Agency relationship is a relationship where one party (the agent) is authorized

by another party (the principle) to undertake a certain task. In Kenya Banks have adopted the agency form of doing business where ordinary businesses such as forex exchange bureaus are used to serve clients from a specific bank. For example KCB bank (A Principle) uses agents to provide some of their services to their clients. In this relationship, The Kenya Commercial bank authorizes the KCB Mtaani agent to allow the client to for example withdraw money from their KCB account. In this situation, KCB felt that is was essential to extend their reach to the grassroots level so that they can better serve the common mwananchi and since it was not as cost effective to set up branches and ATMs all over the country they decided to use other people (Agents) to perform help some of their clients with the day to day operations of their accounts.
