An example of a hard news story is the horse meat scandal. This comes under the heading of hard news because it is something that will affect a lot of people and is a current affair topic.

Soft News
Soft news are stories that are more light-hearted and revolve around entertainment. Soft news stories usually include celebrity gossip, music, film and TV.

An example of a soft news story is the Oscars. This would be a soft news story because it is about film and celebrities and is very light hearted.
