2013 Youth Programming


Beginner Guitar/ Ages 8-12 Monday & Wednesdays / January 7 - February 13 (No class January 21) Time: 4:30-5:30pm // Cost: $60 In this 6 week session, led by Anthony Ortiz Jr, students will learn basic guitar playing skills, as well as an understanding of performing music. Participants will be introduced to the different genres of guitar such as Mariachi, Conjunto, Tejano, and more. Family members will be invited to enjoy the students performance at the end of the session. No prior musical experience is required and class instrument is provided. Minimum of 4 participants to make. Registration closes January 3rd. Intermediate Guitar/ Ages 8-12 Tuesdays & Thursdays / January 8 - February 12 Time: 4:30-5:30pm // Cost: $60 In this 6 week session, led by Anthony Ortiz Jr, students will learn advance guitar playing skills, as well as an understanding of performing music. Participants will be introduced to the different techniques and exercises to become more technical guitar players. They will be able to apply all they have learn to Latino genres of guitar such as Mariachi, Conjunto, Tejano, and more. Beginners guitar required and class instrument is provided. Minimum of 4 participants to make. Registration closes January 3rd. MACC Spring Camp 2013 March 11-15 / 9am-5pm / Ages 5-12 / $150 *Early drop off available for additional fee. Have your child celebrate and welcome the beginning of spring at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center. This year, students will focus on Mexican Festivales de Primavera (Spring Festivals). The goal of our camps is to foster a meaningful understanding and appreciation of Mexican American cultural arts and heritage. Camp activities will include both visual and performing arts classes. The Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center fosters a meaningful understanding and appreciation of Mexican American, Latino and Indigenous cultures through youth and adult education. The MACCs goal is to provide programming which cultivates the rich history of Austins Latino community.
