Introduction to Environmental Engineering Lab Techniques

Environmental Engineering II

Wastewater
Wastewater is sewage, stormwater, and water that has been used for various purposes around the community.

Sources of Wastewater

It is essential to characterise ww as each source o has different composition. This results in different impacts on the environment.

Goals of testing.
To design the appropriate wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) for specific area.

To monitor and evaluate efficiency of treatment processes in WWTP.

Outflow and inflow turbidity is measured.

Recharge of groundwater

Reuse of treated wastewater.

To make the Environmental Impact Assessment

Testing procedures
Sample collection techniques Field measurements Sample labeling (including location(s)) and documentation Sample preservation and holding time Transfer of custody and shipment of samples Quality control Data handling and reporting.

Sampling procedures

Field Measurements
Temperature pH Dissolved oxygen Electrical conductivity Turbidity.

Preservation
The sample is preserved at 4 degree celsius and to inhibit bacterial action preservatives must be added.

Tests to be performed.
