St. Jean de Crvecoeur (1735-1813)

A French- American writer. Born in France. Migrated to USA. Prospered as a farmer in America. Started to write his famous novel: letters fron an American Farmer published in 1782. It is written in XII letters. His letters were considered autobiographical and described life in the America colonies and the emergence of and American society.

His Primary Work: THEMES

The nature of an American character. The work ethnic. The responsability of the individual. The farmer as a prototype of the American character. The treatment of slaves. The inmigrants and their ethnicity. American identity. Celebration of the fertility of the land. Is the 1st writer to explore the term of the American Dream.
