This class is designed to help students improve their English speaking skills through role
playing, practice exercises, and group activities. Students are expected to actively
participate in classroom discussion and activities

Students who do not participate in class will result in a lower grade. Students should
always come to class prepared with the textbook, workbook, a pen or pencil, and
notebook. There is no cell phone use in the classroom. Cell phones should not be used,
seen or heard. There is no eating in the classroom. Do not do homework from other
classes in English class. Arrive on time and do not leave early. Students who arrive late
or leave early will lose participation points.

Grading:
30% Participation – 10% Quizzes – 20% Homework -- 20% Midterm – 20% Final

Any time I see you participate in class by answering a question, asking a question,
arriving on time and engaging in class activities, I will give you participation points.
Your participation grade will depend on how much you choose to interact with the class.
Showing up to class and not speaking does not mean participating.

Required Texts:
New English Upgrade Student Book 1
New English Upgrade Workbook 1

Assignments:
Most of the homework will be out of the student workbook. I may give other homework
assignments. I do not accept late assignments. If you do not do your homework on time,
you will receive a zero.

Attendance
If you will be gone from class, it is your job to tell me ahead of time or by emailing me.
If you are gone for a school function, you must give me a note from your department with
a departmental stamp, or else it will be considered an unexcused absence.
Students who miss 8 or more hours will receive a failing grade.
Being late 3X = 1 hour absence

your answers from another person, and do not let a classmate copy from you either. If I
