AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson the students’ should be able to
1. Recall what a data capture is.
2. Elaborate the advantages and disadvantages of an automated data
capture.
3. Distinguish the different types of data capture forms and turnaround
documents.
4. Discuss its advantages.
5. Design a data capture form.
6. Improve an existing data capture form.
METHODS OF INSTRUCTION
Greet students and enquire about their last week project (2 minutes)

Lesson Development (40 minutes)

• Elicit from the students the meaning of data.

• Then talk of capturing those data for various purposes.

Example: A subscription, questionnaire etc

• Explain what data capture is by providing examples such as a POS


report.

• Then, explain the applications of data capture with examples such as


OMR, OCR and MICR.

• Explain how to design data capture forms. The criteria simple, clear etc.

• Using a given example elicit how to improve a data capture form.

• Students then discuss how to design their own data capture forms based
on the given criteria.
Lesson Closure : (8 minutes)

• Recap of the lesson ( 8 minutes)


• Group discussion (10 minutes) how to design a good data capture form
and show a model data capture form.

Homework:
Go to a supermarket and see how the cashier checks out items bought.
Submit a report on what happens when you pay at the cashier.

Prepare a data capture form based on the given criteria above.
