Memorising Jazz Scale using Relationships This a list of some commonly used scales in Jazz improvisation.

it shows how tthese scales are related to others and should help for the purposes of memorising them.

Dorian - Natural minor with a #6, can be used over minor 6th chord Melodic - Dorian with #7 Harmonic - #7, A harmonic minor over D7b9 or Am Mixolydian - Major with b7 instead of #7, G major with F natural or C major Dominant Bebop - Mixolydian with #7, Major with extra b7 Lochrian - G major starting on F#, over F#m7b5 (half diminished) Phrygian - E natural minor starting on B Spanish Phrygian - has extra D#, major 3rd of chord B7(b9#9) Tritone substitution - For G7 use Db7 and Db mixolydian
